First off, a big thanks to the MM team for releasing V7.2.2. I used it live on Saturday and it behaved flawlessly. I haven't had a chance to try all of the new features yet but I love the new timeline display and the headphone level control is a useful addition.
One quick question on the headphone level control - it seem that the headphone level is controlled by BOTH the master and headphone controls i.e. if the master is turned all the way down then nothing comes through the headphones. The reverse is not true (so the master isn't affected by the headphone control. Is this behavior by design? I can understand why it might make sense for the headphones to get louder as the main system does, but it would seem more logical (to me) that the two output levels would be completely independent. One reason for wanting this is that I occasionally turn the master output right down to make sure I can't accidentally play something live, but I'd still like to work on cueing up the next track(s). With the way Fusion works at the moment this isn't possible. Not a big deal at all but I thought I'd ask the question in case it's a bug. Steve |

What you see is by design. I certainly see the point behind your request. We felt that "Master Volume" by definition should control everything.
Most people use this control to dial in the overall gain to avoid clipping while maximizing headroom. This activity is relevant to both outputs. I hope this helps and would be interested in other people's perspectives. |

Thanks for clearing that up Aaron. I understand now why it behaves as it does.
I guess I'm using the controls in a slightly unusual way, although it's certainly convenient not to be reliant on using an external mixer. This does seem to be the idea behind the Numark DJ/IO (which I currently use with Fusion) - it makes for a very convenient setup for the less demanding gigs. Anyway, as I said - it's no big deal to me either way. Incidentally - just so you can have a laugh at my expense - when I discovered this during the gig on Saturday I thought my soundcard was broken. I even switched over to my backup laptop briefly until I figured out what was happening. Then I felt stupid (and relieved!) Thanks, Steve |

In my opinion I would prefer the headphone and main volume controls to be completely independent as you would on a conventional mixer. I´d want to be able to turn the main volume down for my set without affecting what I´m previewing in the headphones. Admittidly I can do this on the mixer my laptop´s plugged into, however when i´m using a usb midi-controller I set up one of the faders to control the main volume. I guess it might be good to have some option to link them depending on how people mix.
