I'm getting a new Acer laptop with modern specs, using late model ATI chipset and AMD Dual Core, 2GB OCZ DDR2 and a fast Hitachi HD with Vista Home Premium SP1 (32bit) installed and fully upgraded. I'm wondering about the level of compatibility with MM Fusion with this new OS, can anyone authoritatively comment on this?
Thanks so much! |

Users have had mixed results with Vista in performance environments of vary types, including Fusion. If XP is an option for you, you might wish to consider that instead, while you can still purchase it (through June 30, although Steve Ballmer recently indicated they might extend that deadline even further). Service Pack 3 for XP is out now, and includes several major OS upgrades that are also part of the Vista package. XP has become the most reliable operating system in Microsoft's history. My philosophy on this is, "Why tempt fate?" Furthermore XP will be supported with further security updates and major patches for many years to come.
Despite Microsoft's marketing efforts, Vista adoption remains low. The only place it is really selling is to the end consumer. Businesses are waiting to adopt, many choosing to take a "wait and see" approach until the next generation of Windows OS--Windows 7--the 2nd generation of any Windows OS release usually being the one that hits the mark. (Windows 95 vs. 98, Windows Millenium and Windows 2000 vs. XP). In each of these cases, both 98 and XP proved to be the winning OSes of their day. You may have good results with Vista, or you may not. That's about all anyone can honestly tell you. Tim, Co-host of Jack2It MMRadio |

I am running Vista Ultimate and it runs Perfect.
I do have 4Gb of ram and a Dualcore 3.0, but it runs perfect. i can assume that if you get that laptop and its got 2gb of ram, that you will be fine. This message has been edited. Last edited by: D-MIXX, |

I will answer your question in two fold Whereangelsr.
1st) as D-Nixx said…. An Acer with your specs should work with no problem, however I am telling you IT WILL work with no problems. My son has the same computer with the same specs and he uses it for video editing and he get no hang-ups. If it does not hang-up in video editing then you stand a good chance it wont hang-up at all. 2nd) His computer came with Windows Vista and we rolled it back to Windows XP and all is fine. As Tepmix said, There are mixed reviews. In my opinion it hands all the time on the simplest of things. Now I made the choice for my son when I noticed how long it took to edit video in Vista. Hang-up after hang-up. Now I am not telling you to roll back, I am only suggesting it if you get hang-ups. So notice… It is not the computer so please feel free to purchase it. Work wonderful. If you want XP see if they can install before you purchase or ask them to include it in the deal. Good Luck in your choices. Banter |

Yes, if someone can confirm video stability in a particular machine, than the chances of you having good performance with Fusion on that machine should be high.
Nearly every case of instability (freezing, erratic performance, sound pops, clicks and related issues) that I've seen reported in this forum (including my own initial problems with the system I built for myself specifically for Fusion) have been related almost entirely to video trouble. That's not to say there are not other driver or hardware related issues out there that can cause problems, but video stability is definitely a big deal. Thanks! Tim, Co-host of Jack2It MMRadio |

OK, let me re-state this…
My son uses his Acer for video editing however never used MixMeister on that computer. However the editing he does is top notch, I used the same program on an HP a1140n w/ 4Gb of ram and have no hang-ups either. Using Pinnacle Studio 12 which is no toy. That is not to say that MixMeister will work on these two computers, just that it gets no hang-up with anything else. Banter |
