We're reviewing some new features for an upcoming release. We are trying to make a key decision about how to implement the Bass, Mid, and Treble controls.

The question is how do you use them? Do you use them more for small adjustments? Or, do you do big swings for special effects more often?

Please let us know.

I mainly use bass with a fade in/out much like normal volume transitions but only when too much bass to smooth things out. In a 120min. mix i might use bass about 30%-40% of the time.

Treble i only use maybe 15% of the time

Mids i almost never use.

I would say I never use Mid and Treble controls.I know they may be interesting for some special effects. I use Bass control to fade out /in during some beatmixed transitions.

I'm with kicko on this one.
Bass I use on most transitions to avoid "muddying" and too much overall bass.
Treble fade in/out I use in transistions to cut out any harshness that can occur with clashing hi-hats, etc.
Mid I never use.

Generally I use these in smooth transitions; rarely to a cut from 1 tracks bass/treble to the next.

What ideas do you have? What are your reasons for looking at b/m/t controls and what's your goal? That would be very interesting to know + maybe help highlight some particular points of attention.

Hope that helps.

Neb.

I use all 3 on virtually every transition in each Mix, this is one of the aspects of my (dare I say it) style.

I also use all 3 to create effects (such as the fading out of T/M to leave Bass running, and then bringing the T/M back in to play).

I don't use them excessively, but I do use all three ... mostly just to modulate in order to improve a transition, as opposed to using them as effects ....

I'll just say what Wildr says...I use all three as well...helps out with the transitions greatly! Bass especially...but treble where needed. but I use them religiously as effects add ons...

I use them mostly in transitions. Bass I use as a "normalizer" between tracks, but I mostly use the mids. I tend to not do effects in the mix, but prefer to use the mixer's EQ during a live set.

I'll take up this space to mirror a lot of what has already been said... adjust treble and bass on nearly every transistion to help smooth things out. Then do the same throughout a single track to change up the overall sound a bit. Doh, just realized this is in the Fusion Forum... I am still using P6 with great success and love the B/T controls. My bad. Carry on.

The mid control is particularly fun to twiddle on its own outside of transitions to create fun effects, especially when combined with a bit of on the fly looping.

Personally I like the way the Bass, Mid and Treble are set up.
Unless MMF can create an Equalizer as shown in the link below I would suggest things be left alone because if things are altered for the future Updates, would it not mess with all of everyone’s default settings?

The link above shows an equalizer that comes free when you purchase a Turtle Beach External Sound Card. I have said it before, this is one of the best (if not the best) low draining external sound cards on the market.
No I am not selling the company, I am just trying to help others with what I stumbled across.
When you look at the diagram in the link above you will notice that you can adjust on the fly and have no hesitation. It does not wait for you to let go of your mouse before you hear the changes. As you are moving you can notice a difference. The best part is that you can pull it up at any time you wish because it runs in your system tray. Check it out!

There are many VST EQ's similar to the one that Banter has shown, and many of them available free! google friend

I sometimes wonder whether Faders as opposed to Knobs would be easier, or if it's just horses for courses.

Anyone have an opinion?

Yes, My friend Wildr is totally correct as for I was just pointing out (one) the EQ that I know works well.
As Wildr requested, I too would like to know if anyone has other opinions or knowledge of other Audio EQ’s out there.

I never come to the party without an opinion in my pocket Wink In this case, it's: Form follows function.

Personally, I think mouse motion, being fundamentally a linear pass across a mousepad, has a lot more in common with fader operation than with knob-twirling. I won't object if people want to call me a bit slow but when I first saw Fusion and the knobs on the left panel of the timeline, I could no way intuit that the knobs were meant to twirl in a circular motion in response to a linear movement of the mouse ... someone had to tell me. So, from my point of view: deduct one point for counter-intuitive design -- bring on the faders.

I use all 3 quite often to even out transitions, rarely as an effect in their own right. I do use the full range of the controls.

As a suggestion (unless it's already available and I haven't found it yet), I think it would be useful to make the EQ and strip volume controls switchable between controlling the live output and the preview output. That way I'd have the choice of laying down EQ markers while previewing through the headphones or controlling it live while the transition's playing out to the audience. If the switch could also be controlled via midi I think this would work very well with an external controller like the BCR or BCF 2000.

Cheers,
Steve

I mostly use only Bass and treble... Mid a bit less... But they need to be there all 3 of them.

Just want to add 1 thing:
It occured to me that I basicaly use the same transition technique with the EQ.
I use a 16beat transition ,
The ending song the bass goes from 0 to -6 on the 8th beat
The starting songs starts with bass on -6 and goes up to 0 on the 8th beat.

Maybe it is an idea that users can make templates like this in fusion? it would surely speed up my mixing performance.
