This is from this past weekend's gig. It has been edited for length only.

Loving this set Tim
Great selection of tunes with a real sweet progression though them. No point mentioning the flawless transitions (including the occasional cut) and harmonic flow as your sets are always spot-on in those depts. Loved the mix with "a rock classic" (I'm hopeless remembering track names, even if they are classics You did all this live? Or was there some post-gig tidying? Neb. |

Neb,
This was no post-gig tidying. Only straight edits. The set originally came in at just around 4 hours on the nose (10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on the perf date). I cut a section at the beginning and a section at the end which is why the start and finish are a little abrupt, although I did post-edit the initial intro and final outro at those cuts points to make a reasonable start and finish for the radio airplay. However, I do prepare in advance. What I do for live sets is generally have about half the amount of playlist/time lined up in advance. So, in this case 2 hours (out of a total of 4) where I have all the tracks set at default 64 measure transitions. Additionally, where I want to do some very complex track magic, I will have, say, a total of 30-45 minutes of perfected sections out of this advance lineup, including the first 10-15 minutes. Then I proceed to work my butt off perfecting the remainder of the intial time (additional 1:15 out of 2 hours in this case), and adding in additional tracks, editing, adding effects, and perfecting them as well to round out the evening (3:52 I think this was total). All of this gives me the ability to have near studio quality performances, while at the same time allowing me to be completely flexible for the crowd, including guest requests (which I usually loathe, of course), which I can inject at numerous points along the way. By the time I get to the last hour, I start to relax, grab a cocktail, and just keep myself ahead of the end by 1 or 2 tracks. I usually hold out some of the advanced track fireworks for the wrap up. Those are missing from this excerpt. But, I do not generally work in sequence like a vinyl or CD DJ must do, because I don't have to. Tim, Co-host of Jack2It MMRadio |
