Over the past months, J2I has turned into one big rockin' party, with lots of Electro, lots of big club sets, some of which were drowning out our more traditional fare and splitting our audience. So, in conjunction with Translucent, we've setup a station just for all you head-bangers out there--that would be RAF, or Radio Active Fusion. Fortunately, we've been blessed with lots of fantastic new talent lately, making such a division possible.

Now, in terms of J2I, we're looking for smooth, soulful house music. House that is thoughtful and centered around the traditions of House. If it has a deep, garage, funk or disco vibe, or is focused on the serious exploration of the House genre, it's going to get placed here. That's not to say that we won't be airing sets with progressive, tech, or electro mixed in. But, what we want to see here on J2I is house music with SOUL and focused on tradition--new or old.

So, get busy and generate some House music that will stand up to the test of time. Sets that you can listen to over and over again, that never get tiresome. Take a listen to the new rotation, and I think you'll get what we're after.

Location: Germany in Soest. It´s a little town with old churches, a picturesque old town, many homelike pubs, but also discos and shopping centers. Countrified ambience. It´s a good mix - I love it!

Basically a very good idea! Great!

When I hear sometimes modern progressive or electro - house you can compare this really with rock like AC / DC or so!! Don´t laugh! Why?
Blues, Rock´n´Roll and easy rock are formed by
some simple accords, the "riffs"! The guitars are distored by effects (I´m an old guitarist!!)
The same technics are used in modern progressive
or electro house: Distored riffs in loops!

Now we old and new rockers can hear this electronic rock at a own station here!

I see only this problem:

Where do you send different mixes now? I mean mixes which fit earlier in Selector´s Choice?
For example: A classic latin mix from MrCucho?
A classic rock mix? A German Schlager mix 2008?
A salsa - mix? A great reggae - mix from a member living in Jamaica? A death - metal mix?

M,

Selector's Choice died because there was not enough interest, from either an audience perspective, our DJ-base, and host/mod-base to support it. As you know, the station languished nearly 24/7 with zero listeners, and there was very little participation or interest from the membership.

In terms of high energy dance, hard dance, and breaks, we've had no end of submissions from our membership there, so a decision was made to dedicate the stream to that base, break out the harder sets from both J2I and Translucent, and better focus all 3 stations--J2I for soulful, more traditionally-centered House, Translucent for Trance and RAF for the clubheads.

So, we will undoubtedly miss out on airing the occasional "unusual" set here and there. However, when no one is listening and there is not much interest from the membership in such a variety of specialty genres, no one is being served by having a station dedicated to them. In terms of audience, having a station with unlimited boundaries, in terms of style, didn't work well because in order to build a listening audience for a station, you've got to be able to attract and keep a dedicated base of listeners. Everyone's taste in music is different, and when you constantly change what's playing, you simply end up with a station that no one wants to listen to. Incidentally, we did discuss the possibility of converting SC to an all-reggae station, but that was ruled-out early on due to the fact that we have almost no participation from the niche reggae crowd here. Also, the occasional reggae, and some other styles, are suitable for airing on Beat Conscious, and/or AMU, depending on the nature of the set.

So, the consensus decision to move SC to RAF was made based on our available talent pool as well as our desire to focus styles, additionally hoping to attract a more stable and robust listener base for all of the stations.
