Thanks Moto. There should be no strange crossfade from the Hatiras/Level 42 mix to Carbo's "Fly With Me." I suspect that the submit tool failed to grab the beginning of the fade-in to the next number. There is an 8-bar edit and a re-splice in the middle of the underlying crossfade here which is perfectly joined and plays as it should in MMPro6. What I suspect you heard was an abrupt and jarring jump to the last half of the underlying Carbo intro at bar 40 (the edit point), and you missed the previous 40 bars of its fade-in, which the tool probably didn't grab. The mix is very tight here--the outro of the previous mix (the DP-6) adjoins the intro of the Carbo mix, which underlies the remainder of the Hatiras mix. Essentially, the DP-6 number overlays the Hatiras mix until the intro of the Carbo mix which underlays it for the all of the rest of it. The entire Hatiras should have been mixed with the other two tracks. I would imagine the jarring entry occurred at timeline 10:41 and that the underlay was missing entirely from 9:10 until 10:41.
Arggh!!! Does this sound right to you? Unfortunately, I just uploaded this mix yesterday and haven't heard it air yet, so I have no way of diagnosing for sure. I just used the submit tool again, but didn't upload the mix so that I could proof it. It doesn't appear to have occurred again. Also, as far as the mix not being in the list schedule yet, that's entirely understandable since TRR is obviously making adjustments to the schedule even as we speak. From chats with Mme Fly, I understand that it's a big job. I just uploaded this mix yesterday, so the speed here has been great. Changes to the MMS server do not update the forum postings automatically. So, I'm sure that will come next. Thanks TRR! I'm going to resubmit the mix again and hopefully that will eliminate this problem. (More work for TRR Thanks again, Moto. Tim, Co-host of Jack2It MMRadio |

Hey Tepmix,
Unfortunately, the Level 42-Carbo crossfaade was no abrupt jump but an entirely out of synch fade In fact, I submitted, or should I say: tried to submit, a mix some months ago and apart from title info nothing reached the server but pure silence ... Anyways, a resubmission should do the trick and I'll gladly be listening to your mix again! free your ears and your mind will follow... |

I'd suggest this is a server issue, I'll contact Rob and Aaron and see what's what!
Bear with us folks! |

Well, that makes even more sense. What I have noticed with the DJ Submit tool and MMPro6 is that it does something strange to the internal song beat mappings. It apparently accesses and either changes or does something strange with the accompanying .mxm file that MMPro6 creates with every accompanying .mp3 file--probably using a different mapping algorithm. Every time I use the thing to process a mix--either to a file for proofing or for direct uploading, MMPro 6 has to remap the beats for at least half of the .mp3s in the mix. After I re-open Pro6 with that same mix, you can see it going through the process of remapping the file beat structure down in the lower left corner of the program. This happens every time I use the submit tool.
So, if the beat synch ends up being off, this does not surprise me. I'm wondering how old the Mixmeister version of the submit tool is. It may have been created in conjunction with a previous version of Pro (say, 4 or 5), and that could, it seems to me, cause issues with later versions of Pro mixes. Between versions 3-6 of Pro (all of which I've used), the quality of the beat mappings have increased dramtically, and if a tool with an earlier mapping algorithm is being employed to re-map the beat structure, prior to uploading to the MMS media server, I can see how this could cause problems from time to time. It can obviously be an annoying and time consuming issue for everyone. However, last night I was able to locate the Windows temporary file directory location in Windows XP for the actual .wma file that the submit tool uploads to the MMS server. It is located here: C:\Document and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp with "C:\" being your hard drive upon which Windows is installed. Replace "<username>" with your Windows account logon name. The directory "Local Settings" is a hidden directory. To unhide it, goto Start>>My Computer>>Tools>>Folder Options>>View tab and click the radio button beside "Show hidden files and folders." Then click apply and OK and you will find the .wma file there in that directory by Mix name. After submission, the tool does not remove the file from this temp location--typical bad behavior for Windows applications, albeit beneficial in this case. You can then immediately play and proof the 128kbps file in Windows Media player or other .wma compatible media player. This way you can proof and determine immediately post-uploading your mix whether its integrity has been maintained by the submit tool for the upload. If everyone does this, it will enable them to notify the Radio host (TRR, et.al) if there is a problem before he gets the thing on the air. After uploading again last night, everything seems to be in order. That is, unless there is some other strange encoding on the mix itself that causes the MMS radio server to experience other problems with it. I'm not sure how those track names are being encoded so that the MMS server knows how to display them during radio play. That could be causing other problems as well, which, I imagine, might interfere with proper stream play from the MMS server itself. That issue, if it exists, I could not confirm. And speaking of how the track names are determined, I really hate that. On a heavily layered mix, where the intros and outros overlap each other by 64-112, etc. bars, the trackname breaks bear little resemblance to where the tracks actually begin and end. The submit tool should definitely have the option to determine the tracknames by label markers, just like the MM program itself. Thanks again, Moto! Tim, Co-host of Jack2It MMRadio |

Good idea, I concur!
This is a philosophical issue, I guess, but I think as long as the official MMT advice to users who just can't get with the v.7 program, or who cannot take the time necessary to retweak all v.6 mixes/tweaked tracks so that they can be opened successfully in v.7 -- as long as the official advice is to stick w/ v.6, then I think it would be more fair to fix v.6-related tools that fail. That said, I do believe the following statement is correct:
I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |
