In terms of dragging the compression effect down to the timeline in Studio 7 so that it is applied to all tracks in the mix ... to my ear, the result when using Kjaerhus is a very bright, hard sound, and when using iZotope's "Enhance - medium compression" the result sounds muffled (in both cases, using the default settings.)

Is this difference in end result (muffled/warm vs. hard/cold) something that I can control via each plug'in's control panel, or is it "a feature" particular to each bit of kit?

Or is this not something that anyone else experiences?

MadameFly I agree about the iZotope sounding muffled or fuzzy, I much prefer the Kjaerhus Master Limiter. For some reason I have never thought the Kjaerhus Master Limiter sounded cold or hard, but a bit bright and also really LOUD if you're burning to CD, and usually have to crank it down to 3.8 or low 4's but depending on the song it still can go from reasonable to maxing out the L.E.D. meter on the stereo from song to song, so I need to tweak the individual volumes as well, which I find to be a bit of a pain in MM Studio 7. I usually turn the master volume down a few points too, to prevent clipping. All things told though I am pretty happy with the Kjaerhus Master Limiter from a sound quality standpoint.

Marko, you're right -- I was burning a CD and that's where I felt it was over-bright/loud.

It sounds like the first step (as Tepmix has also suggested to me) is not to drop either one into the background (single setting for the whole mix) but to adjust each track separately....

hi!madamefly i mix with izotope and it give much a sweeter sound than kjaerhus but u must set the eq and master section by u'r self don't use the preset.set all compression right on top of the wave, use eq to u'r sweet spot then master section to bring sound up than limiter -3 out.than bring the limiter down don't dither.

Thanks for the tips, I need to try those out ... I wonder if I can get a clue on this aspect in particular:

I've used Ozone to beef up a mixed-low track (Mark Rae's Lavish / Deadbeats remix) ... I'm happy with the increased presence and the bass boost, but in the high end, it seems brittle and over-processed ... and this is true even in export to wma, which is usually not as bright-sounding as a burned CD...

I'd like to tweak this into a warmer, more pliable sound for the high end using the MM tools in the Effects panel, cause I'm thinking there's probably one or two knobs in there that could help me adjust just this aspect ... but there's 40+ knobs
Mind Blowing!

Based on what Rudyard posted, should I be looking at adjusting via the EQ controls and if so, which of the 12 or so should I be focusing on?

I can patch in a screen shot of the knob-bank if seeing the current settings would be useful...

Thanks for any clues that would help be focus down on the appropriate settings

Thanks, again Rudyard ... I actually took the same advice I usually give other people -- I read the Ozone Help file Shame ... after that I played around with the settings and I think I got closer to the warmth I wanted ... I've uploaded the set (Terms & Conditions) and we'll see what others think about my results on that last track....

I appreciate your feedback on this topic
