OK now you gotta give us a clue how you did this ... one computer, taking turns? Give us a little scene setting (I've never been part of a tag team where the selectors were together in one place ...)

I got something for your mind, your body and your soul.

I need to find me somebody local to try one of these tag teams out...LOL

Like MmFly said....more details on how this came to be (things like that can enhance the listeners experience...make them feel a little more connected with the work Wink).

Ok,

Picture the scene, we wake up one morning to discover the upstairs Toilet has sprung a leak(!) - one quick repair job by yours truly (dirty job but someone etc etc.), and several phone calls over the next 2 weeks to insurors and builders and we discover that the hall ceiling directly below the toilet is full of asbestos, so me GG & son of GG off to Hotel for night.

I take works laptop, along with external HD, and thankfully headphones - we're all in one room!

Get son of GG settled and asleep, so we're now in the dark at about 8pm, trying to find something to do (no sniggering at the back!) that won't wake son of gg.

we decide that we'll have some light from laptop screen and set to work on trying to come up with awkward, yet complimentary tracks for each other!

So we each do our song, then pass the headphones over. It works really well & our disparate musical tastes seem to blend somewhere n the middle.

For a highlight, check out the re-edited section where ossy osbourne meets the Macarena (I kid you not, you will Not believe how good they fit!).

Anyway, all this took place back in August/September time and after repeated listens to decide if we should tweak and where - we've both agreed to leave it as is and share our moment of madness with you all!

*whew* I'm off to bed now - look forward to comments once you've digested it!

R {& GG}

Wow, caught this one, and what a fun set Big Grin

As for the selecting, the range of songs was excellent and there were some total surprises (don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't heard this yet, but Ozzy Osbourne into Macarena !!! whoa !!! that takes some chutzpah Eek) Tracks I would want to add to my crate included the M-People rework of Dennis Edwards' Don't Look Any Further, Anastacia's Not That Kind of Girl and the rousing Boom! Shake the Room (yeah that's right, I don't have 95% of the tracks on this mix.)

The mixing was inventive, changing to suit the needs of each transition rather than attempting to put everything into the 'strictly beat-matching' bag ... some transitions were less successful (the first track into the second, or the Madonna track into Anastacia) but the majority were well played, making for a persuasive flow even between tracks from wildly different genre types ... like the way the rising vocal on Tina Turner's Goldeneye anticipates that upper register in Ozzy's vocals on No More Tears. Even when the song selection left me cold (Black Crowes...eh) the mixing kept me engaged.

Looking forward to the next tagteam when you and GG have to move out for the kitchen reno to get done Wink

Thanks Mme,

The 1st transition is definitely the weakest, in terms of us not actually having decided to do anyhting other than "muck about with Mixmeister" at that time!

Sorry you didn't like the Madonna/Anastacia mix - that's one of my fave transitions, simply because I needed to do so much work looping & re-editing Madonna in order to have the space to layer the "cold" vocal intro from Anastacia -however that could show me that I shouldn't lose sight of the sound of the mix, in favour of being clever with it!!

With regard the Ozzy/Macarena mix, this was just funny - I'd laid down ozzy (following on from GG having re-edited Tina Turners Goldeneye in several places), and extended where I wanted the outro to be - GG hunted around for something harmonically correct and in a similar BPM range found that , dropped it in for a laugh to wind me up (remember she was wearing haedphones and I couldn't see what she was doing) - when she handed the headphones to me & I played it, we just HAD to leave it - amazing how well it fit without any additional tweaking & it made us laugh!

EVERY time we've played that to someone the reaction has been "What the ..."

Once again, thanks for the feedback!

I'm very sympathetic to this impulse ... there are many similar moments among the BeatConscious sets ... I realize that sometimes I'm hearing something compelling that other folks just aren't hearing ... Sometimes the difference is whether or not I'm listening under headphones ... there are transitions that work best when you can hear the details, but which sound really abrupt (or whatever) coming out of the speakers.

I'm with ya in spirit on this decision Wink

With regard the Ozzy/Macarena mix

No way, ever, ever can you mix the Prince Of Darkness with Macarena. The very thought of it shocks me to the core. But you/GG did it. Laughed? I nearly sh$! Superb!!! Big Grin

Some really good mixing with a bonkers assortment of trax .. I wouldn't dream of attempting this! I also really liked the serious "mucking about" after the Blondie Rapture track that went right through to the end of the set. Some excellent ad-libbing and improvisation. How did you get the scratch effect? Is it a DX plugin from somewhere?

Nice one .... bring on the next Big Grin

Hey Neb,

Glad you enjoyed it! With regards the cut-ups at the end - it's not a plug-in, it's actualy the first DJ cut-up/Mix record to make it on to vinyl - Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel!

One of my all time fave's, and just crying out to be mixed into Blondie, where Debbie Harry Namechecked Flash!

Ok...I moved this thread from it's old home to here because I wanted to add to the comments here, seeing as how I finally heard the mix in its entirety.

You guys rocked... CoolI played this on full blast at work (i'm in the basement heh heh Big Grin)...and I had all of my office mates in a stir (that's a good thing)....I would say this mix is Effing brilliant Big Grin, except it was marred by one thing....somebody dropped the Maccarena...lord I could go several lifetimes without ever needing to hear that friggin' mess again (and you should have seen the dirty looks I recieved when it came on...yikes Eek) Roll Eyes Mad Roll Eyes

All in all though....good work.....now hurry up and sort out another for the masses....cause this one's getting retired soon... Wink

Hey Rook,

As you can see this is how that came about!

My enforced absence over the past month from this home of the audionically insane has led to a backlog of tunes from GG and myself - will get uploading (& responding to PM's) soon!
