Titled "Under The Stars - Part 1"

This is my first mix using mixmeister, or any digital mixing sw. I used to mix vinyl in the 80s/90s mostly for my own enjoyment, made tapes for friends. Did play at a club twice on guest DJ night and got paid to play at a couple of parties, so technically I was a "professional"

My screen name "Saint Steven" is in memory of The Saint in NYC where I learned to love dance/disco music and first became aware of this thing called mixing. I like a lot of older music from 70s-90's. I tend to like long slow fade-overs rather than seamless transitions.

I haven't done any mixing at all in well over 5 years, and this is my first effort in mixmeister, so be gentle with me, eh? For some reason I just got "bit" by the bug again after all this time.

Well, I have to make the first criticism myself. Rookie error. Lesson: listen to the WHOLE thing before you upload it, not just the mix points.

There is a spot in one song (True) where the tempo slows noticeably for a few measures. I didn't notice that before I submitted it. First I thought I had a stray tempo marker, but I had tweaked the beats on this because they are dropping and adding half measures like crazy.

I had the tweaks a little bit off at the point where it slows down. I didn't realize the effect that misplace beat markers could have on the speed. They got back on track after that, so it wasn't noticeable in the outro and I missed it until I listened to the whole thing.

Oh well. I fixed my mix. I'm tempted to ask wildr if I can have a do over and submit it again, but I probably should be made to live with that goof playing over and over as a lesson in what happens when you are in too much of a hurry to get your first mix in rotation.

Well, my mix did not play at about 11:50 ET at the spot in the playlist that it should have.

Gee, was it that bad? Did the automatic quality control agent filter it out... Frown

Hey Steven,
Caught about the first 30mins of your set! The songs brought back some fond memories. As you already mentioned earlier, your tempo was up & down on "True" (It happened again on "Love's Theme")The Mixes were getting smoother as your set progressed though. Anyway I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. You know us "Rookies" gotta stick together Big Grin

I missed my set. it must not have played in the same order as listed in the playlist. Now you have me worried that the mix did not get converted right. The slow section in Love's Theme that I just found was after it was mixed out and shouldn't have been audible. It isn't audible when I play it in Studio. Well, there were a couple of measures earlier that were just slightly off, but they were barely noticeable. If you could hear that section of the song that shouldn't have been audible, I'm wondering if somehow the uploaded mix isn't the same thing I'm hearing in MM.

I'm having trouble with the beat slicer in trying to adjust that end portion of love's theme, because at one point it just stops playing the song, but the ticker keeps going, so I can't hear the beats at the end to adjust them. Maybe I'll have to ask in one of the other forums about that.

Thanks for your comments.

Steven

Nope! It was my bad - apologies, I'd moved it into the wrong slot - it actually played but was 1 place out on the schedule - this has now been corrected.

Yeah, it's worth checking your mixes before submitting them!

You are most welcoem to a do-over! Re-do the mix and then resubmit it with a slightly different title (vol 1.1 for example).

I'd reccomend *Always* checking the song slicer for Fusion & Studio 7 users, 1 errant marker can make the whole mix lose it's flow.

I look forward to your re-submission, and catching this set myself!

Yeah, this is a common issue (Bug?) that we all suffer with - as a workaround, whilst you're previewing the song in the slicer, grab one of the last markers and move it slightly (even out & back to it's original position will do), and the you should then hear the whole tune up to where it ends.

The mix that uploaded shouldn't be ANY different to what you've produced, It probably is due to the section you've been unable to slice, try and correct it and upload it and we'll soon hear if it's fixed Big Grin musik

OK, I THINK I got the tempo problems worked out. Updated mix is uploaded with "redux" added to the end of the title.

I admit to tweaking a couple of the mixes besides fixing the beats. You know how that goes.

So wildr, please delete that abomination of a first mix and replace it with this abomination, so I can get on with my quest to single-handedly take dance music back 20 years.

Done & Done!

BTW - nothing wrong with the dance music from 20 years ago!
