Hi y'all

MmeFly asked me to start this off.

Please have a listen to our 'revolutionary' mix - Gaz Skeltz & MmeFLY - Flying Back toward the Dawn (A MeatBix)

The origins of this mix come from here: Downtempo Grooves

where MadameFly was describing how she made a mix by starting (as usual) with the first track in a mix, but finding she wanted to add something before.

I suggested that this would be a good idea for a tagteam mix and we moved the discussion to Back To The Beginning

It seemed that there were no brave ppl out there who wanted to take part, so Mme & I took up the challenge.

Through USA holidays, A hospital stay for me, Christmas and New Year, we worked sporadically on the mix.

For me, this was a huge challenge... I'm used to mixing dance tracks, Mme is the downtempo guru of the boards.

Each track she added made me think long and hard about inserting a previous track in the mix.

The BPM of the finished product goes up and down like the proverbial yo-yo, but still seems to work!

We ended up (started) with East 17 and M People and worked our way back through some pretty eclective stuff ending up starting with Santana Big Grin

There are a few themes running through the mix - some great guitar work, some religious references and, of course, a rollercoaster ride through the highs and lows.

Certainly not a dance mix, certainly not a downtempo mix - We feel that this is a somewhat unusual blend of styles.

The name of the mix reflects the method used and the vibe the finished product (hopefully creates).

I'm off to Cyprus on holiday next week, and I think this mix will be a perfect welcome to a new, sun-splashed day.

I commend it to the house!

(As they say in the British Parliament)

Regards

Gaz

Well, as they may also say in the British Parliament, let me first thank my esteemed colleague from Kent for his incisive remarks .... OK OK, I'll stop Razz

Working backward to build a mix continues to be an interesting exercise, especially working with a tagteam partner ... for one thing, as Gaz noted while we were doing our post-production tweaking, we hadn't gotten tired of hearing the opening tracks because they were actually newest additions. Keeping track of your flow is also an odd sensation, as is thinking first about the way a track ends, rather than how it begins ... We're both just hoping there's no permanent damage from working this way Wink

I have to thank Gaz, who laid down the last tracks first, for reminding me about that fabulous M-People joint, So Excited ... it turns out that once upon a time, long before I'd discovered beat-mixing, I had made a compilation tape where Excited was preceded by B-Tribe's Fiesta Fatale! ... so I did that same thing again, only this time using MixMeister, I got to find out whether my instincts for what worked together were really any good back then ... turns out, they were right on time Smile

There's lots of musical gems in this mix ... and the fact that it is such a hybrid of styles makes it perfect for the Selector's (or, in this case, Selectors') Choice stream ...

But enough about what we think ... let us know what you think Wink

I got something for your mind, your body and your soul.

I have this track on CD single....that was from back when I was a major major fan of M-People. I bought this single and played this mix of the track every morning straight for at least 6 weeks. It's kinda nice to hear it used in a mix Big Grin.
