Thought this might be of a benefit to those wishing to hear a certain mix within a playlist...

Question:
Should the mix length be included in the playlist along side the dj/mix title?

Choices:
Yes
No
Don't Care/Undecided

Good Question Plur,

It is something that has been requested by Radio hosts now and in the past when DJ's are uploading their sets, However, the majority forget to do so, or can't be bothered!

To make it as easy as possible for DJ's to get aired, this tends to be soemthing that doesn't really get enforced!

Will be interesting to see what the results of the poll are!

The only real benefit I see is that if you're keen on catching a particular mix, you could calculate very exactly when to tune in. But as Wildr said, how should such a rule be enforced?

that's exactly the reason for the idea moto. and don't worry about enforcement. play all the submissions. but it should be a "rule" of common courtesy. if people can't be bothered to be considerate, don't waste time trying to educate them.

It has been debated a few times here and there.

Who knows. Confused

Maybe we need to have a hosts meeting and talk about it again soon. Wink

Change the upload program code to include mix length as a mandatory input.

I absolutely get the point. But why not automate the procedure? Wouldn't it be possible to have the Submit program calculate the length of the submission on the basis of the upload size? After all, I figure that the file processed by the Submit tool is encoded in standard wma format. This approach would also erase the potential problem of MMs providing incorrect 'mandatory' playlist lenth data (for what reason ever)...

I know that this is extra programming effort but it might be included in the upcoming MMF Submit tool. Aaron???

I know you do, Moto. That comment wasn't directed at you at all.

thought i'd post the current results in the poll i began concerning mix lengths tagged with each mix uploaded here to one of the stations.

this can either be tagged with the mix and shown when you view the "what's playing now" link or included within each station's master playlist in the corresponding forum...

Ok,

This subject has been bought up with Aaron, and his word on the subject is that it's not an easy thing to incorporate into the existing submission tool.

Therefore the onus falls on the submitting DJ to include the RT with their submission.

Now, I'm not (personally) going to insist on this, as I think it's not really valid enough to prevent someone's mix from airing JUST because they forgot to include the RT.

If you DO wish to include the running time, then please feel free to do so, it will need to form part of the Mix Name when you use the submission tool, I.E. "Mix Name: Crazy Frog The Revenge [57M25S]" or "Mix Name: PLUR Fusion (70 Minutes).

The choice is (Currently) yours......
