I got laid off... Frown

Yup...I just became the latest victim of that fashionable trend: DOWNSIZING Crazy! !!! I'm getting severance, and many have offered to help me with my resume...but man does it ever suck!!!

In the meanwhile, i'll do the only thing I can do in times like this...i'm firing Mixmeister up, and crank out some hot mixes (I think I might even have a Downtempo joint up my sleeve)!!!

Hey, Rob, I'm so sorry to hear that ... I can really relate, as down here in Sunshineland we have been living with cutbacks and the threat of more cutbacks for the past six months ... we are told this is a five-year process -- at the end of which I think the only government service left will be the Sheriff
Not Impressed

But you've got the right idea: you can only look for work for so long each day ... you have to channel a bit of that energy into pushing out some mixes ... BeatConscious is ready when you are, my friend.

I wish you best of luck in the job search

Doesn't sound too funny. How hard is it to break into a new place/job in NYC?

Many wishes of luck - may you get a new job before the severance expires and have a dual income for awhile!

what the fark?! dude, first d... now you. i'm jumping on the bandwagon an blaming this one on global warming. chin up sir.

how much would unemployment bring in? i only mention it because back in july the company i work for laid out about 15 pink slips (luckily i was not one of them). one of those that got one was an old buddy that i busted my butt to get him hired there. he is a single father and it turns out that the difference between what he was earning on the job versus what the gov is giving him is only $400 less a month. needless to say, the lazy bum is still kicking it at home collecting those checks.

Here's a way to feel as good as you can about collecting: Be happy you don't live in FLA, where the maximum is $255 per week. When I lost my $15/hr job in 2003, that's what I got -- and someone who lost a $40,000/yr job got the same as me ...

I'm thinking NYC unemployment is a little more generous, but then it's a little more expensive to live there, too....

S**t man sorry to hear that. Im lucky I guess because im in a local government job here which is nearly impossible to get fired from (unless you totaly f**k up at something).

Anyway I hope you find a new job soon so that you can continue buying those tunes and cranking out the great sets.

Don´t worry! Smile
I´m an deputy of the good old style too (I´m 42!), but life goes on! There will be always new styles!

Examples: In the fifthies the Rock´n´Roll! All have thought that this was the apocalypse. Now Elvis is the greatest!

In the sixties the beat. What an awful sound have the people said. And what is now with The Beatles?

The Bee Gees in the seventies. How simple are the drums in Saturday Night Fever have they all said! It was the beginning of Dance!

Synthie - Pop from Depeche Mode and others in the 80´s. They can´t play, this are none musicians have they
said. Now this groups are examples for new electronic and dance!

Rave, Techno, Eurodance in the 90´s! This is no music have they said! Now it´s cult!

So be open for new styles! I love new styles too (House, Harddance, Trance, Techno and naturally new downbeats!) Be open! Jazz is awesome (another example: In the fifthies this was ill-reputed from conservative
people, now it´s an eminent genre), but there will be always new styles! That´s good so! Trust me!

Do your old style further! No problem! Jazz is an great genre, it will always be big!

Here in Germany it´s also awful with jobs! Since the east was opened come people from there to us and they beat down the wages. Good work gets more and more less, and young people emigrate already!

My work is also not assured, but I hope the best!

Again: How can I help with the others here in beatmixing.com?

Dear Theodore Remington Rooks,

I´ve known something like that to happen. You feel bad, bootless, very addled. I know!

Hummm.....

My advice:

Forget that strict!! Don´t (!!!) think about it! They can bite you!!! Think so, you are not (!!) blame for it!!! That´s sounds very hard, but it´s the truth!!

Look in the future, save your energy for searching a new job!

That is my hard advice to you after this. It sounds perhaps vulgar and hard, but I hope I have helped you with
this. I had similar feelings after similar experiences.

Life is a rough ride Cry Cry, but after rain will follow sun! Guaranteed, dear Theodore Remingto Rooks!

Speaking of jobs and the crummy things that happen to people who have them, check out this picture of Dow Jones (Wall Street Journal) employees listening to a speech by their new owner, the ever-popular Rupert Murdoch:

Do these folks appear just the slightest bit skeptical or dubious or let's say not entirely enthusiastic over the future of their jobs? My guess is that when a picture is taken next year of the newsroom staff, you won't see a lot of these folks in the shot.....
