For all the folks who posted to this thread or who generally enjoy the Beatles' music, I'm highly recommending Julie Taymor's film Across the Universe ...
This is a psychedelic visual delight: costumes, choreography, special effects -- this movie has it all (even explosions). But even better, the leads are doing their own singing, not lip-syncing. The only name actor I recognized was Rachel Evan Wood -- the rest I'd never heard of, but they were all pretty impressive. The music production was partly the work of T-Bone Burnette ... excellent stuff. See it while it's still on the big screen I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

This was new to me...
I'll take a look at the trailer during lunch today. Looks interesting. The poster art is beautiful. _____________________________________________________________________________________ according to my wife....I lived here?? See what I'm working on...PuffyStuff.com |

I'm a big fan of the Beatles (I have about 32 CDs of their stuff), and LOVED 'Love', the cirque de soleil show in Vegas.
The wife and I are quite anxious to see this movie, but it's not playing anywhere near us, so we'd half to drive about 1.5hr to see it. I guess we'll just wait for the dvd so we can watch it on the big screen (10' mfly, I have to believe you recognized bono and the every so beautiful salma hayek while watching |

phreaq, I did recognize Bono, but not Ms. Hayek ...
I'm still pleased that I'm the only one in my small group who recognized that it was the REAL Joe Cocker and not an imitator (when imitators do Joe, there's never any love ... only laughs; this wasn't played for laughs, though) ... but everyone thought Joe had long since passed on, so they weren't prepared for it. How long before new stuff hits the DVDs these days? I had to do the big screen, 'cause my home set-up is not exactly top of the line... But who was Mr. Kite? I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

Salma was the nurse.... well, the 5 nurses, hmmmmmm
deeping on how well it does in theatres, it's typically 6 months or so until it's released to DVD. It was released early Sept. at the Toronto Film Fest, with it going to full release a few weeks later, so I'd guess early next year. Mr Kite was played by Eddie Izzard |

The wife and I finally got around to watching this one, and I came out with mixed feelings. To start off, I hate musicals. I have never seen the rocky horror picture show, no desire to. Grease? Never seen it. The ‘Stewie and Brians’ musical Family Guys, ugh, I fight may way thru it.
So, now onto ‘Across the Universe’, I thought some of the musical montages were amazing, with ‘Let it Be’, ‘…Mr. Kite’, and ‘Revolution’ standing out, with the latter using the songs lyrics as one characters lines, with other characters replying to him, resulting in the next line of the song, well done. Other scenes involved perfect strangers breaking out into spontaneous synchronicity, egads. Overall, not bad, check it out if you’re a Beatles or Joplin fan, but realize, it is a musical. |

hahahaha well put ... that's exactly what usually dissuades me from seeing musicals also ... Glad you found a lot to like, though ... I thought it was pretty spectacular on the big screen ... I have since bought the used DVD from my local Blockbuster and expect to watch it again soon.... I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

I saw this awhile ago...was excellent am quite old myself so this was right up my alley...have all the Beatle songs...and love Joe Cocker. I knew it was Joe in the movie is one main reason for watching it. I thought the film was excellent...I'll give it 5 stars!
