Hi Dudes

I have a small problem I would desperately like some input on. I created a mix recently in Mixmeister and although it was under 80 minutes long, the file size was too large when i tried burning to CD.

To get around the problem I changed the format of the last track of the set to MP3 instead of WAV using "soundforge" hoping the compression would make the set small enough to fit on the disc. It worked but when i listened to the CD there was a 1/4 of a second pause before the last track kicked in. I have tried trimming/cropping the pause in soundforge but as soon as i save it puts the pause back in! Is this a feature of MP3? Do these files always contain a small .24 second gap?

Does anyone know a way around the problem. I spent ages on the mix so i dont want the pause but I also dont want to lose the last mix.
I have shortened the CD as much as possible.
Please help if you can

thanks
Stal

When burning MP3 to CD using DAO with zero seconds gap I've always found that you get a gap.... I've tried several things and could never get the gap to disapear... so you need keep it all wav format, or burn directly from MM to CD.. This has been the case with EZCD, Nero and several other burning apps... its something to do with the way the programs read mp3.

Thanks for the reply Douglas.
It would appear that there is no way aroud the problem. For certain "technical" reasons to do with encoding the gap will always be there.
The only reason i converted the last file to MP3 was because as WAV the mix as a whole was just too large.
Its a real bummer because getting rid of that last track simply will not do! dOES anyone know of any blank cds with larger memory?, mine take up to 736 MB but my mix total is around 800MB.

Do you have the option to enable overburn in Adaptec? I use this in Nero sometimes and get about 83minutes (i.e. over 800MB) burned on standard unbranded CD's.

Burn it to DVD?

You could try speeding up all the songs on the mix by 0.5% or so, that should shorten the overall playing time with no real change in the songs.

One trick I've use to fix your problem is realatively easy, though it might be cheating.

If all you need to cut is about 20 - 30 seconds, you can often mix a track with itself to make the overall track have the same vibe and feel, but be a bit shorter. If I have a 10 minute track and I like the intro and outro of that track, I often do this.

when burning mixes with software like Nero etc, always use the 'Disc-at-once' option. This gets rid of gaps between tracks. (you need to set gaps to zero seconds as well between tracks)
