The Final Volume of Deefer has now been uploaded.

You know the score by now, loads of 80's & 90's dance & pop tunes Mixed n Mashed.

This is the first AMU style Mix I've produced with Studio 7, but there WILL be more to follow!

Enjoy, and please feel free to comment!

Hi Wildr,

I just caught a part of your mix, Deefer Vol 4.
What struck me (in a positive manner :-)) was the way you use very short transitions (like the one to Push it - Salt&Pepa). Brilliant also was the one to Afrika Bambaataa's Planet Rock (one of my fave tracks)!

I only caught one off key transition and that was the one where you mix Teardrops into the set. My first thought was: you can do better than that ;-)

Looking forward to catch some more of this mix.
Best!

Hi Roberto,

Thanks for your cooments, great to get some feedback! Big Grin

I've looked at the .mmp for deefer 4, and I have added a phase effect to the outgoing tune (U Can't Touch This - MC Hammer Vs Rick James) in order to deal with what was a key clash.

Unfortunately I was obviously suffering from monitoring fatigue after working on this for several hours, and not pulled it off Grrr!

I'm gonna go back and see if I can replace that Mix of U Can't Touch This, with the original and see if that works - If it does, I'll re-up it!

Thanks again, it's always useful to receive good, solid criticism, that is well presented - I.E. you say what you don't like about the Mix, and why - also it never hurts to say what you do like too!

AAARRGGGHHHH!!!!! Rgh!

I've tried to both amend the phase effect and remove the phase effect. Neither of which makes this transition sound ANY better, so drastic measures are called for!!

Somewhere in my back yard, in my storage shed,is a shrunk wrapped, sealed and locked box, within which is the 12" Vinyl of Teardrops.

I will fight the garden spiders, wade thru' the 1500+ other 12" and *hopefully* I can find it and rip it.

Then, I'll re-do that section of the Mix, and then upload it!

So....given all the 'real world' stuff I got going on at the moment it's probably gonna be early next week before it get's done.

Ok,

Job done! I've now uploaded "Deefer Vol4.1 (It's Really Over)! [1h 19m 41s] to the AMU server, with this section totally redone.

I've now got the drumtrack from 'U Can't Touch This' running throughout 'Teardrops', as well as a couple of drop-ins of MC Hammer -"Break It Down".

Using the 12" of 'Teardrops' has meant that I have a straightforward beatmix, that sounds cleaner than previously where I was attempting to compensate for wandering basslines

However, the down side of using such a well used piece of Vinyl is there is some surface noise - I can live with that in preference to the key clashing Roberto pointed out!

Hopefully Slip or Douglas will add this new one in and pull the old 'un soon!

Hey WildeR,
I have just been listening once more to this mix. I really enjoyed many of the tracks!! Big Grin
I have to dig in my 90's collection and add some of these to my digital collection too! As said before, you really master the short transitions. Also many tracks in a short timeframe! Well done! Big Grin

Oh.. and was there a WildeR Jingle inthere??
I want one tooo!! Big Grin

Anywayzz.. Here is some more concise feedback and suggestions:

Sly & Robbie -> Kid Creole was great. I thought I heard Michael Jackson inbetween which made it a bit busy, but certainly in key.

Alex O Neal to Real Roxanne: simply brilliant!

When you mix in Rene & Angela, I think that the synthesizer in that track should kick in louder right away. Then you mix in Sweet T. Very nice track. Maybe you could stretch the Sweet T intro, so Kurtis can finish his raps? Sweet T to Queen was simply brilliant again Smile

Right Said Fred also seems to work with a smooth criminal, which makes the transition a bit too crowded to my taste. But again, all in key Wink

Duran Duran sneaks in very smoothly. Also here I suggest you could make them start louder (simply at 0 db)

New Order to MC Hammer (with love shack acapella(?) was) awesome, and the transition to Womack you have fixed now with a sharp cut. All in key Big Grin

Salt N Pepa into Run DMC: I suggest to cut the push it loop when the Run vocals kick in.

Level42 was a real cool down. I would like to have the ability to let a track slow down to 0 BPM (can't go lower then 40, currently).

All in all a very nice set R. Thanks for the 'kewl choonz'!

I'll be in touch tomorrow, keep an eye on your PM's!

As to your comments, firstly thanks for taking the time for such a consice review!

Unless Rene & Angela go back in the studio and re-record it, it ain't gonna happen Wink - basically that's how that track opens, no real manipulation on my part!

It *has* been stretched 2x4 measure loops in order to take in all of the rap! At least on my version of save your love!!

I agree that the 3 in 1 transitions sound busy, but I have to say it's like marmite - you either love that sort of thing or hate it! I'm still working on perfecting it, sometimes it's spot on, alas sometimes it's not quite there!

In actual fact it's not a sharp cut, just that every element EXCEPT the beat from Can't Touch This drops out, the beat continues throughout and stops as Girls On Film kicks in.

Probably right, just didn;t want to have that quick a transition.

Exactly as it was meant to be, sort of drawing a line under the Deefer series to say "that's it, it's finished!".

So, thanks again for your critique, please don;t be offended but I'm NOT going to go back and fix this again, I think I've spent enough time with the deefer range over the past year, and I'm going to take your comments on board for the next series, and leave this to stand or fall on it's own merits!

All the best Rob!

No offence taken! Giving feedback does not imply that I want you to retouch your work.
Just some suggestions for alternate approaches Big Grin

Hi Roy!

At present I work also on a "All mixed up" - mix. It´s one of my dreams to connect the "Wedding - DJ" with the beatmixing - DJ. In the meantime I have learned something, and I advance good in my work. But I´m only by about
15 minutes, so it takes still a lot of time to complete this mix. But I will work further.

Furthermore I work with Ryan (DNC) together on another mix, and beyond that I´m very pleased. You see I´m not
dead or lazy, it takes only some time to get good work.

To this mix:

"The intermediate files 2 (Pop)" and "Deefer Vol.3" had pleased me better from style, you know I love the
classic "Wedding DJ". But also here you have worked very hard on the transitions.
You are one of my quality - ideals here on "beatmixing.com". I will try to catch you friendly.

00:32 circa: Now the mix turn into my style, that I love at your mixes.

I only want to listen now.

By the way: In Germany there also "Wedding - DJs", they are called here "Ü 30 - DJs". That stands for "Über 30 - DJs" (Over 30 - DJs). They play in discos the music for people over 30!. There are furthermore "Ü 30 -
parties (Over 30 - parties).

Roy,
I become a good beatmixer, you will see! It takes some time to work at the mixes.
But than.......

Best regards,
Holger.
