I don't understand what the Hive does for me exactly? Not the security side, the practical side.

Does my playlist entries get added somewhere, and used as a popularity type thing?

Or does my actual playlist order come into effect?

Or both/neither?

Go Team Canada, eh Big Grin

I believe that's a part of what it does (I can't remember what else it does at the moment Roll Eyes).

Right now, the Hive is little more than a place to store your catalog settings and track tweaks. It does make easy work out of using multiple machines with the same music files.

As more and more people use it, the hive will accumulate enough playlist information to be able to make smart song recommendations. This is still a work in progress. The quality of the recommendations depend upon the amount and quality of playlists people submit.

To answer your question about playlists, we don't plan to use the overall order. We just plan to use which tracks are next to one another. In other words, we plan to offer recommendations based on DJs using mixing a specific pair of songs together.

The Hive is something we hope will become very useful and powerful over time. The system will need to evolve to make this happen.

It opens a whole lot of interesting options for the futures - like the ability to share (if one so desires) tweaks/presets with others - I know this functionality isnt available just yet but it would be kinda fun.

Ok, I'm starting to understand, but do I have to do anything special to use it (other than check of the box)?

For example, I use MM at home and work (2 different computers). If I save a tweak at home, will those tweaks be there when I import the track at work?

Yes. The same is true if you change the category a song belongs to or update the tag in some way.

Now this is really interesting! If I understand it correctly, the Hive will become an online music database created from inputs from MM users. Hmmmm. This could possibly also form the core of a harmonic mixing database.

"Rapid Evolution" at www.mixshare.com does the same thing, and it's free. It stores song info like the bpm/key/etc in a central database, and also stores the mix information between songs that DJs come up with, with comments and ranks. Made more for DJs in general rather than MixMeister users but the same theory nonetheless. Check it out! :-)
