I use MixMeister Studio 6 since around three weeks.
Yesterday I have compare the song key (keycode) of 20 songs (club tracks/ remix services) between MixMeister and Camelot Sound Services database (Examples/One-Way Testers).
Only 5 songs was identically. Confused
Is this function nevertheless helpful?

Camelot Sound himself actually ran tests on the key detection and found it to be about 60% accurate when considering the pure harmonic key.

The thing to remember with Mixmeister though is if it identifies 2 songs as being of the same key then there must be an element of commonality between those songs, so whilst they may not be musically correct they may well still sound compatiable.

Try letting MM calculate the key for a lossless format versus a high bitrate mp3 or wma of the same file. In my experience, MM sometimes gives different a different value for the key despite the fact that the songs are indistinguishable to most people.

Hi all, slightly different question, but on a related matter.....

My WONDERFUL Girlfriend has bought me an early Birthday present of Studio 6 (following on from the version of Express 5 she got me last year - ain't she the best !?) , we've duly loaded up all the (hundreds) of tunes on the PC and noticed that the keycodes only show a number followed by the letter A.

Reading the help file (yes I do sometimes bother), relates how the harmonic side of things is supposed to work and makes reference to keycodes which have a number followed by B.

Any idea why none of my files are "B's"??

Confused
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we might as well dance !!!

That has to do with the fact that Mixmeister mostly reads music as Minor Keys, because that is the predominant key of most dance/electronic music.

And congrats on the upgrade... Big Grin

Thanks Rook - interesting response - I can only presume that the majority of tunes are in a minor key, as two thirds of the tunes on the PC at present are my girlfriends , and these tunes tend to be rock, metal(ish), pop and country(ish)!!

There's even classical, punk, kiddies tunes etc on here, yet I still only get a small "m".

It's irrelevant really, as it won't stop me mixing - however I've already found the key keycode info to be an excellent additional tool!
