Hi B, and welcome to the forums.

You can record your voice in a third-party app and use MixMeister to lay it down on top of the instrumental track. This same topic was just covered in a different thread, called Talking over music to burn to cd.

yes, I believe you do need a mic ... often, a new PC comes w/ a little mic, nothing special but enough to record your voice into the Windows recorder (look for Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Sound Recorder in XP)

You can find a passable mic for testing purposes at any computer store for relatively cheap - you can also find closed-cup headphones with mics attached, too (I know Labtec makes some). Granted, these are not the greatest of quality, but something you could use to test to see if it gets close to what you'd want. Remember that you're probably gonna get a fair amount of ambient noise, too - especially from your computer if it's got some loud fans - but that might be covered up by the underlying music bed. Depending on the amount of ambient noise reduction you can do in your audio editing app first, you might get something that sounds OK. (of course be sure to check all your levels before recording your final piece though)
