Allow me to present, for your summertime listening pleasure, the latest installment of Dub & Dubber ... part 7 is DubFounded, which arose out of the ashes (so to speak) of a Dub tagteam that lost its mojo ... Sly Devil and I worked on this one for a couple of months this spring before we both confessed we just weren't feelin' it ... I'm indebted to him for his suggestions (track-wise and technique) during the tag team process and also for giving his consent to this thing going forward as a solo project ... there were a few tunes I just couldn't walk away from and besides, what's summer without at least one Dub joint on the show?
The tag team was started in Studio 7 but I took it into Studio 6 to do the solo version, and so had to remake the transitions that Sly D had originally created ... I hope these stand up to close inspection. As the mix title suggests, I got away from "pure" Dub tracks and into some tunes that are strongly dub-influenced ... you'll hear material from Thievery Corporation, Tosca, Chris Coco, Dubblestandart, Funk Sinatra, Noiseshaper, Jhelisa and Kalahari Surfers, as well as the songs from Manasseh, Mad Professor and Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley that Sly D dropped in the mix. So picture yourself with your butt in the sand, a cold glass condensing in your hand, surf kickin' up and palm trees bending in the breeze ... irie mon. BTW, for any of my Florida ppl that may visit the show, this mix was finalized on August 13, the three year anniversary of Hurricane Charley ripping through this part of the world ... it's good to be still standing I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

Hey MaFly!
It´s a shame that your good music stands in the shadows of the other stations here. I have said it already to Tom (Moto): You are too brav! Say it so: "I´m Mafly and I bring you the finest downbeats! I work since 2000 on that and I´m proud about that! So damned guys and ladies digg this!!!! This mix is great MaFly! And I´m glad that there is a female DJ beside the many other guys! I will listen again and again to your downbeats. Perhaps I have someday the zest to create an own downbeat - mix? Who knows Madame. Viele Grüße von Soest aus Deutschland von (Many greatings from Soest in Germany from) Holger. |

About 00:56:
What a dubbing! So many dub - mixes. Interesting! I know dub - mixes first of all from singles (Old or new CDs) I have earlier self made music with an old 4 - track - recorder. Overdubbing is to record another sound track to a track. A dub - mix is to show this dubbings. But: Where do you have get so many dub - mixes in downbeats? Holger. |

Well, just to clear things up: I believe what Holger means shouldn't be mistaken for being too "brave". Even though historically the German "brav" derived from the same root as the English "brave", nowadays it means something like well behaved ... Don't yet know whether I can take this as a compliment Now, to bring this thread back to its origins: I've been listening to parts of this mix over the last weeks (at work so I didn't find the time to comment) and I remember your last two sets of the Dub & Dubber series, Madame. I think this one is the best I heard so far ... it's the selection of tunes that totally does it to me ... really deep ... you're getting Deep & Deeper!!! Thanks for the wonderful music Moto free your ears and your mind will follow... |

Hey, thanks for the feedback, guys!
Yes, I think I understand Holger to mean that BeatConscious is not real big on the self-promotion thing ... true to the underlying character of the music, I guess: Relax, take it easy, everything be irie, mon Holger, for more discussion on the various meanings of "Dub" check this thread. In addition to the meaning you mention, Dub has a specialized meaning as a musical style, originating primarily in Jamaica with reggae ... but it has been adopted as an element in many other musical styles and especially in Downtempo ... Thievery Corporation is one of the best examples I can give you; also Kruder & Dorfmeister from the days of their double album The K&D Sessions from 1999. Big up to emusic.com for having a commendably deep selection of dub-oriented music, including a German group Dubblestandart I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

Sorry for my rough words. I have meant it good. You make so wonderful music here, and sometimes the people respect that not. But it´s really so: The character of your music makes you lower.
But perhaps that is good as Tom have said: It´s a wonderful place to relax from all the trouble in this world! Thanks Tom for your assertion from "brav". Indeed I have used it for "You behave too nice here in "Beat Conscious". Really I have meant that you shall make more publicity for this very good work, but maybe I have thought false. The lower tones in life are often not heard. I know! Also I have two hearts in my breast (I am zodiac sign twin!): the rough person, who likes Harddance, Rock and Techno and goes sometimes willingly in a Harddance - Disco. But also the very sensibel person, that takes many, many to heart and that loves my family. And that is attached on a lot of people!!!!!!! Thank you all, Holger. This message has been edited. P.S.:
I have check your link to the thread about "dub". Interesting! I have known that dub - mixes are often performed with voices, instruments or drums with reverb, delay or effects. I have known that from the dub - mixes on the singles. Often on a single there is an Extended Version, a Single - Edit, an Instrumental - Version (Playback - Mix) and a Dub - Version. I have thought this is a style of the producers to present the overdubbings. Madonna was very, very great in voice - overdubinng. For example the songs "Cherish", "True Blue" or "La isla bonita" - Wonderful voice harmonics, all are sung from Madonna herself! With a dub - mix you can present those overdubbing better. The overdubbs are more in the foreground, but have more delay, reverb, effect or so. But I have not known that this is a own style, originated in Jamaica. Logic: Reggae - music contains mostly many delay from the voices or the drums, it´s understandable that the dub - style comes from this music. Very interesting! Thank you very much for this information! Greatings from Germany, Holger |
