In one last official act before heading off on vacation, the aptly named FLY on the Street has been added to the stream ….
Actually, the title of this one comes from the lyric of a really great Radio Citizen tune I was reminded of recently when my promo package from the good folks at Putumayo Records landed in the mailbox ... The Hop (from the album Berlin Serengeti) features some gritty rock chords against a distinctly Euro-flavored female vocal from Bajka and that track sets the tone for much of what follows, including classic noise from Walkner.Mostl, A Forest Mighty Black, Yonderboi, Gabor Deutsch, Everything But the Girl, Fresh Moods, Guardner, and from their 1986 album Boomtown, David & David's track Swimming in the Ocean … But wait, there's new stuff on here too, notably a Groove Guru track from the 2007 basicLUX release New Sound Theory Vol. 4, as well as evolve's Do You Know This One? which appeared on their 2006 release Happy Hour in the Gene Pool. Another hot item was from emusic.com: Jello by Lux, from Summer Chill Classics, also a 2007 release. Beyond a doubt, though, the most intriguing track came to my attention courtesy of the Urban Modernists radio show hosted by Afternoons in Stereo frontman, Greg Vickers … he dug up the wonderful 2001 Phil Martin track We Are Together from the album Mystical Funk … now that's a keeper! As for that bit in the mix title, Summer Time, I think you'll find the BPMs hovering in the lower end, from about 85 to no higher than 106 ... hanging on to a bit of that slow hot-weather vibe, trying to stretch out the last of the summer fun a bit longer ... or at least until I get back from vacation I hope you'll enjoy this as much as I enjoy my road trip … but if not, the complaints department is open 24/7 …. I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |
