I present to you “My Belly’s Bigger than Buddha’s”, my first solo mix in several years (I had a few tag teams and compilations, but this is all me baby!)

This mix is actually dedicated to my wife, who has the big belly, and to my little phreaqette, the one who’s making my wife’s belly big. This should explain the ending Wink

The mix has an ethnic feel to it, quite suitable as your soundtrack as you cook up a good curry (I recommend Chicken Tikka Masala). The first 40 minutes or so is a little more laid back, with a chill feel to it, whereas the last 20 mins is quite ‘clubby’, hopefully you’ll enjoy it.

As always, let me know your thoughts,

phreaq

phreaqin' masterful set! This is one to come back to again...
Chewbacca

First of all, what an inspiration to hear a new ethnic-music based mix ... makes me want to fire up MM and start my own herbs & spices set ... the selecting, which was excellent, featured lots of stuff I don't know plus some things that sounded vaguely familiar (a Transglobal Underground cut, possibly?) and the pleasure of hearing Massive Attack drop as well as that tidbit from the Beatles' Revolver ...

As for the end, I'm gonna say (given the rest of the mix) that it seems to be illustrating that part in the Tibetan Book of the Dead, where the spirit has to choose between following the white light of Nirvana or being drawn back in by the smoky red light of procreation ... clearly, this little spirit chose to be born on earth one more time Wink

Now, just so people realize you didn't slip me a 20 (Canadian) for the praise, I'll point out that the first transition is a little sketchy ... I've had my share of those, usually because the narrative of the mix requires a transition that I'm not entirely capable of pulling off to perfection ... (these days, I've been resorting to samples / loops to get me past the difficulties ...) All the rest of the mixing, though, is spot on -- transparent, persuasive, very smooth.

Knowing how you tend to build up layers, I'd be curious to see a couple of screen shots of this from the program.

Thanks for the submission to BeatConscious!

Crazy but wonderful the end with the baby!! Great!!

Tell me: Where can I buy such music phreaq? I also have thought about to mix a good chill out set with similar music!

Like DJ Mojito id be interested to know where you got the tracks from. Ive been thinking of putting together an ethnic themed downtempo mix for some time but never had enough tracks (the only two albums in this style which I own are Transglobal Underground's Yes Boss Food Corner & Al-pha-X's Gravity).

I will try to catch this set soon.

Not to answer for phreaq (I don't actually know where he picked up his tracks) but there are a couple of labels like Six Degrees and Putamayo that focus on ethnic electronica ... emusic.com has the Six Degrees line, but I'm not sure about Putamayo ... Also on emusic.com is a series called Rasa Music which is a subsidiary of Tommy Boy Entertainment ... they have a raft of compilations of ethnic exotica.

And that's just emusic.com ... Smile

Hey folks,

I'm glad you're diggin my curry mix Wink

Most of the trax come from my wife's CD collection. Being a yoga instructor, she has many CDs to choose from, some quite sleepy, some a little bangin'.

I would recommend looking for the Buddha Bar series of CDs, much like cafe del mar, just more ethnic.

I'm sorry you don't like the first transition Mfly Wink it's one of the few non-beat mixed transistion I use, lol. And yes, thats a Transglobal Underground track. Funny story, I bought a KMFDM cd from the used CD shop, and he accidentally gave me the TU cd. Got home, popped it in the player, and quickly realized it wasn't KMFDM, but good none the less, so it joined my collection (I went back to the store to get the right CD, and the case for TU)

There's not much mixing involved in this mix (compared to my others) but here's a few shots

oh, and the Beatles track is actually from their Love CD (awwwwww....), the sample is a little different than what's on Revolver.

fwiw, tomorrow never knows, the track where the sample is taken from, is REALLY mixed up on the Love CD, it's TNK's music, but the lyrics are from 'Within You, Without You'. Worth a listen if you're a fan.

Congrats also from this side of the big pond ... I hope the phreaqette is every bit as masterful as your mix Wink. Good thing that we can at least keep the latter!!!
