Sorry MadameFLY but I really wanted to get this out tonight (I think my week might be a bit hectic).

turn off the lights... relax
mix length: 01:16:07
tracks: 18
bpm range: 85.0 to 105.2

I'm taking a very cautious step into Madame's world of downtempo with my first DT mix, "turn off the lights... relax".

I must have tossed out at least 5 playlists before I finally got to the point where I felt comfortable with releasing this to you all. It features a few of my favorite tracks from Etro Anime, Nenah Cherry, Sven Vath, DJ Krush and a very chill track from Supermercato (I LOVE that track!!!). I have chosen to end this mix with a 5 track "megamix" of The Orb's "L.F.C." coming in at around 24 minutes... this track has alot of emotional meaning to me involving the death of a very close friend back in '92.

Madame, thank you again for this opportunity to share my love of music with you and everyone here at Beatmixing.

plur

Oh my goodness, I had notes ... just had to dig out my ratty little scrap of paper and get 'em posted ... Roll Eyes Here's what I thought:

The set was very nice overall with excellent transitioning in all but a couple of places: the mix into Danger of Love was a little muddy -- this sometimes happens when the beats are on but the harmonics are contending more than blending -- and then again at the mixout from Beauty into your LFC megamix, where it's technically OK but feels a little perfunctory, sort of a "yeah, yeah, but now let's get to the good stuff" thing.

Everything else was blissfully smooth and sweet ... the first transition into the Neneh Cherry track was superfine in the way it hooked up two really different vibes ... it starts the listener off w/ the feeling there will be some crazy juxtapositions here and to keep yr ears open for 'em....

About half the tunes were new to me ... probably my favorite on the set (Next to DJ Krush) was that Soul'n'Soda joint ... The Orb megamix was in a class by itself, it left me wondering about which tracks I have that I could work a megamix with (I have that Massive Attack singles box, for instance) ... very cool.

Looking forward to the next one Big Grin

thanks for the listen mmefly and the comments. i know see what you mean by that mix into danger of love. those 2 tracks were definately not meant to be mixed together based on their harmonic key. and the mix out from enigma's "return of innocence" into the orb's "fluffy little clouds" was the best I could come up with considering the major bpm change from 88.0 to 104.9

thanks again for your comments. i look forward to beginning my next downtempo mix very soon... hopefully.

plur

enigma's "return of innocence"

is it just me or does anyone else think of the Chevy chase and Johnatan Taylor Thomas movie where they take down some mob guys in a forest when you listen to this track???

oh I agree with the fly. All and all not a bad first try homie. I've heard worse like my old work that I burned because it was that bad.

The backbeat on this track reminds me of Garbage's "Die for You" sounds similar in key and tempo....

so the other week i decided to recreate this mix in fusion (originally pro6) and correct some key issues as well as a couple b/t/m issues. i also removed the little fluffy cloud megamix at the end bringing the '09 edit to just under 45 minutes.

i thoroughly love this mix. i honestly could put it on anytime and simply chillout to it. i hope you do too.

a big thanks to fly for allowing me to reupload this.

take care, kevin.
