MadameFLY,

I finally heard your Thrills-Chilled mix. It's a great mix! All of the music in your mix was new to me. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Thanks, JET ... I wonder, could you tell where I needed that brake effect? It really stands out to me, but maybe I just lost too much sleep over a small thing ... it's just that you guys are soooo good, it's a high standard to meet.

I would call it TPS.

MadameFLY,

While listening to your wonderful mix the thought of added poetry reading or snip-its entered my mind. But, it wasn't until last night that a few specifics came to mind.

For the poetry reading bit: an Overlay of someone reading poetry (duh!). Of course it would depend on the poem, but have it spoken with a "matter of fact" tone and emphasis during some of your musical segments. If it were my mix, I might even try spacing the verses throughout the total mix. Sorry I can't give a poetry example. I would also overlay the ocean surf, or wind, or some other Enya-ish thing.

For the snip-it bit: I would use snip-its from movies; again, perhaps to tell a story. Two snip-its that I thought of for your specific mix are from the movie "Say Anything." First, Ione Skye's character Diane says "He pointed out some glass in the road." The way she delivers the lines surrounding this line with a hint of nasal sound and a bit of a slur---it carries emotion. Then, the John Cusack's character Lloyd delivers his famous line, "I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen." ...Well, I think you get the idea.

I like your brake effect idea, I am just not sure where I would put it in your mix. I will listen to your mix again with this in mind.

Keep up the wonderful work.

JET, do you get your dialog snippets from DVD movies, or do you have something rigged up to get them off VCR tapes? My movies-on-videotape collection is pretty extensive, but transferring the audio w/ my present technology seems like it would be quite an operation....

Using MixMeister opens up new ways to think about mixing, that's for sure.... My (historical)approach to compilations or mixes has always been grounded in the idea that "life is too short to listen to music you don't like" -- in other words, mixes are an opportunity to hear only the cream. As such, my original M.O. was to include most songs "intact" and unaltered. Now, each time I use MM, I find alternatives to that approach....

With features like the "overlay" in MM, there seems to be endless possibilities.... But can I take time away from the music to sort thru the videos in search of dialog? Sometimes life is too rich! Wink

I have connected my mixer to the input of the soundcard with my turntable, VCR, and DVD connected to the mixer for various samples and vinyl-to-CD recordings.

This method can and does require lots of time. Yes, the possibilities ARE endless. For both of these reasons I have not converted many samples to mp3's. There was a time, however, when I had a whole host of samples on cassette tape; each taken from countless hours of work with a stereo VCR.

I think it is all just part of TPS.

"I keep hearin' about this mothafucka Harry Potter. I'm like: who is this mothafucka i keep hearin' about?" (Snoop Dogg)

... as if it weren't chill enough outside, I'll be bringing a bit more to the playlist this weekend. In the meantime, I'm going to treat myself to a catch-up listen to MMRadio's current line-up here at work which, if I keep the volume low, may pass unnoticed by the admin ppl.... Judging by recent notes in the forum, I know I'm in for a treat Smile
