Your program for March ... slow goin' in so many ways ... even just cranking out a mix, given the reno on the house interiors [peep it here...] Slow goin' also in the sense of: down at the low end of the BPM scale ... 86 and under all the way ...

Featured artists include indie group The Warheads from San Franciso, as I recall, and artist Supine from back in mp3.com days .... you'll also hear: Terranova feat Cath Coffey, Boozoo Bajou, Waldeck, Quantic, S-Tone, Inc. Stereo MCs, Sofa Surfers, Monte LaRue, Ali Hamdani, Jah Wobble and Bill Laswell, plus a superhot sixty seconds from DJ DSL ...

As for the Empathy 2.0 part, well, once again my attention was riveted to an NPR broadcast, and once again, I thought of that downtempo.com contributor's sig quote to the effect that being able to imagine yourself in another person's circumstances is a step on the path to enlightenment ... If that's not something you're inclined toward, don't stick around for the late show ... after all, it's the same as any other TV show, but without the pictures.

I had a friend over yesterday evening, and while chatting with him, I had the chance to enjoy your new one. Though I haven't been able to pay particular attention to the transitions, the flow of Slow Goin' was perfect and provided for just the right background vibe ... hope to catch it again more closely soon.

musik indeed Smile

Thanks, you're welcome back anytime Smile

Oh, and I just found today on the New York Times an interesting note about empathy, part of a larger article on the scientific evidence for displays of morality in primates:

quote:
Many philosophers find it hard to think of animals as moral beings, and indeed Dr. de Waal does not contend that even chimpanzees possess morality. But he argues that human morality would be impossible without certain emotional building blocks that are clearly at work in chimp and monkey societies.

Dr. de Waal’s views are based on years of observing nonhuman primates, starting with work on aggression in the 1960s. He noticed then that after fights between two combatants, other chimpanzees would console the loser. ....

He found that consolation was universal among the great apes but generally absent from monkeys — among macaques, mothers will not even reassure an injured infant. To console another, Dr. de Waal argues, requires empathy and a level of self-awareness that only apes and humans seem to possess. And consideration of empathy quickly led him to explore the conditions for morality.

Though human morality may end in notions of rights and justice and fine ethical distinctions, it begins, Dr. de Waal says, in concern for others and the understanding of social rules as to how they should be treated.

Interesting article ... you can read it here.

Mmmmmm!

I was a REAL fan of Empathy (part 1), so I have *got* to find time to hear this!!

If you only manage to catch 50% of the vibe you had working on part 1, this will still be essential listening.

BTW, love the new Mixing Room!

Hope to have caught some sort of interesting vibe with this one ...

It started out basically as an exploration of the under-90 BPM collection of tracks in my Library ... the empathy part came late in the effort, after I had already assembled most of the tracks, including the Moby item that is the last song ... it was an obvious candidate for a bit of overlay, but I hadn't yet gotten to the point of looking for anything to use when I heard the NPR broadcast ...
