Yes, that would be me, nudging one last mix onto the stream just before the gates slam shut on 2003. Like a number of my compadres on the downtempo.com list, I've stirred together equal parts old and new favorites ... the result is heavily cinematic with generous helpings of both the bass and the blue notes (fans of bass pay particular attention to the Hefner remix of 4 Hero's Planetaria: mmm, yum!)

BeatConscious hearts will quicken to classic tracks from Jon Kennedy, Walkner Moestl, Yonderboi, Cinematic Orchestra and Fresh Moods ... and you'll welcome the newer contributions of Marc Moulin, Ancient Astronauts and Soulstice among others.

Thanks to Phreaq and Professor Andre for their invaluable tips in the discussion on phrasing (and the accompanying tutorial) -- it helped me work through some necessary edits in one of the more difficult transitions in this set.

Comments welcome ... but you knew that Wink

Artist: Cinematic Orchestra
Track: Burnout

The Awakening of A Madame Wink

Impeccable track selection...as usual. The most sophisticated music on the Network imho. I can't believe that I'm the first person to comment on this mix.

You, sir, are a gentleman, a scholar and a judge of fine music ... which explains it nicely, I think Smile

When it was cooked up in late 2003, this mix was already a rework ... and here it is again, still sounding real, back for 2007 in a rework that included replacing the closing track as well as some TPS on transitions ...

Ah, yes ... our history becomes us ... well, the basic history can be found here ... and amongst the details, you will find a reference to the late lamented downtempo website, thedownbeat.org ... It was from the suggestions of this group that lots of my early (as in, early downtempo) tastes were formed.

Bassic Blue started life as a mix called U2Thank and was essentially a shout-out to the TDB crew who brought me up to speed on key artists like the ones who appear on the mix: Jon Kennedy, Walkner Moestl, Yonderboi, Cinematic Orchestra and Fresh Moods .

Every couple of years, I listen to this mix again and think ... yeah! Except for improvements to my own mixing, there's really very little I would change. For that reason, I consider it a classic and one well worth bringing back onto the stream ... hope it pleases today's listeners as much as it pleases me.
