Now here's an odd radio show story ... I got a new track called FunkThePower1 from jrs of The Warheads, and this became the starting point of the new show. But as the mixing progressed, that FunkPower track started losing traction ... despite the deep-dyed soul power of most of the other selections. Along the way, I swapped out FunkPower for a couple of other Warheads tunes, but couldn't get one to stick. The resulting mix owes everything to that FunkPower track ... but there's not a single Warheads track to be found in here ... go figure.

OK, that covers what's NOT in the mix ... let's take a look at what IS in there: we've got a major selection of the Soul Cognoscenti working hard for your listening pleasure this time, including Erykah Badu, M People, Lauryn Hill, Rithma, Nightmares on Wax, Tassel & Naturel, Freddie Cruger, Fontella Bass and new discovery Joy Denalane who takes the stage with two notable tunes.

In addition to the outstanding music, you might find yourself sensing a mild "ripped from the headlines" thematic purpose underlying this show, and you'd be right ... with a nod to Ziggy Marley, SemiConscious Party recognizes that while we can't be thinking about the big picture alllll the time (because that love jones does keep getting in the way), we can still be feeling the pain at the gas pump and elsewhere ...

your mixes are so different from all the other mixes everywhere, but thus I love them! I have catched this nearly the beginning... sounds great after I heard dozends of house - and trance - mixes!

It is good that there is a "beat conscious" with
Gayle and Tom!! I really don´t know a place in the internet where anybody mix such a style...

Wow, thanks for the love Holger ... I know you are one of the world's true music enthusiasts and you don't let notions of genre hold you back.

Mixes made for clubs or parties have a very specific job to do in terms of getting people dancing and keeping the dancefloor moving ... radio shows have a different goal, more like putting you in the passenger seat for a drive around town with stops at all the cool interesting places that the driver has found out about and wants to share with you.... So, yeah, it's a very different vibe for most BC shows ... and I will once again give props to the Bethesda, Maryland radio station WHFS which helped to form my preferences for radio shows back in the day ... this is the sound I try to re-create.

Now: Fontella Bass! So glad you were digging her ... She's an iconic R&B singer whose life and career you can read about here on Wikipedia. I'll try to work that track "Theme de Yo Yo" from from the Art Ensemble of Chicago's Les Stances a Sophie into a set sometime ...
