I have several songs that I want to be able to add the *same* comment to.

How do I go about doing that? In mmp6, I selected 53 songs that I wanted to add a comment to, but it only added the comment to one song. Frown

I tried Tag & Rename because of the multi-file editing feature, but it doesn't recognize Mixmeister's comment field.

When I add a comment anyway, I don't see a change in the comment field.

Help!

First of all, you can't edit tags for multiple tracks in Pro6 at the same time.

Also, the MP3 tag editing features of Pro6 were finicky. I found that they didn't always take on the first try (if you closed MM, and then re-opened it, the edit would disappear), and some of the field behaviors were always odd.

I use MP3Tag for all my multiple tag edits:

Hey Tim,

Thanks for the tip. I like that Mp3tag program. I've never seen it before.

Unfortunately, Mp3tag doesn't read the comment field either.

Try it yourself. Using mmp6, pick 2 songs. On one song add the comment, "Viennese Waltz." On another add, "Jitterbug."

Mp3tag and Tag and Rename can't read the comment field generated by mmp6. Frown

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

With Pro6 (v.6.1.6--final release), no, editing the comments field does not place the comments in the ID3 tag in the proper place, and this does not surprise me. Tag editing in Pro 6 is flaky. The opposite is also true, using other tag editors, like MP3tag, comments entered in the comments field do not show up in the MM properties for the file.

Windows can't see comments created in Pro6 either. Right click on the mp3 file in Windows, click on properties and then click the summary tab. I'm not sure where the heck Pro6 is writing those comments, but it doesn't set them properly. It's definitely a bug.

I would have to say that it's unlikely to get fixed at this point, as Pro6 is retired, and from what I've heard there are no updates or patches planned.

Tim,

Tech support suggested I use the catalog export function, then modify the file using Excel, then save as a tab-delimited file.

Because my version of Exel puts quotation marks around artist names and song titles that have commas in them, I have to use Notepad to remove all unwanted quotes then re-save the file.

Now I go into mmp6 and import this file and voila, all the comments are exactly what I want them to be.

Problem (1): The catalog file now swells to approx 28 times it's original size! In my case, 4.2MB to 117MB. So BACKUP the catalog file in case something happens!

Problem (2): If the catalog were to get corrupted and had to be regenerated from scratch, all the comments will revert back to the old ones. Apparently, new comments in the comment field are catalog dependent. The tags *never* get written to even though the comment field is changed. (Once again, I am talking about the case where we are importing the tab delimited file)

If the comment field is changed using mmp6 (right-click properties in the library), the tags will get modified. When deleting the catalog and creating a new one, you will note that the comments remain because the tags are modified.
