I am looking at purchasing a new laptop. This will of course involve taking the Vista plunge. What is the deal with Vista and MMPro6? Are they compatible immediately and if not are there updates to download to provide full functionality? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I don't use Vista and don't know if v.6 and Vista are compatible ... but it has been stated pretty firmly by MixMeister that there will be no further updates to that version (or any prior versions) of the program.

sorry mate but ive been told by tempix, that vista has screwed us on this one. Since vista won't take DST plug-ins very well, its been upgraded to VST plug-ins. This is all fine and dandy but... PRO 6 can only use DST plug-ins VST's would not be recognized.
That's the extent of my knowledge of whats happening with that. If you want more info, contact tempix.

Hi,

If by DST plugins, you mean Directx plugins, then I don't think that's right... I'm using Pro 6 on Vista Ultimate with Directx Ozone, and everything works fine!..

I'm confused by this thread...

It depends on whether the DX plugins get registered properly with the OS, and with DX plugins that come with and a newer installation procedure, that may not be problem. Vista's beefed-up security may cause problems with certain DX plugins. This has been reported on numerous occasions by various users of Vista in connection with multiple applications. With older plugins, you may need to try to register them manually. Here is something else you can try:

quote:
Follow these steps to register (DirectX) DLLs (or OCX's):

1. On the Taskbar, select Start > Run.
2. In the Open field, type regsvr32 "<path>\NameOfFile.extension", where <path> is the directory where the file is located on your computer and NameOfFile.extension is the name of the file. For example: regsvr32 "C:\Windows\System32\ReverbDirectX.dll"
3. Press Enter.

To unregister/remove a DirectX DLL, type regsvr32 /u "<path>\NameOfFile.extension"

In some cases, you may simply need to run your installer package as "Administrator." The solution might be different depending on the plugin package, but finding and registering the plugins manually should work.

Hmm hopefuly not out of line.I do not like Vista and I decided to study Linux in my spare time.VST does work in MMPRO6 with the free Spinrite VST audio wrapper.Only a couple of VST that I never use even in Reaper will not work.Sometimes not all functions will work on a particular VST with the wrapper. However my OS is XproSp2 extremely lightened up and hacked. This comp is used as a Daw and to Dj with only.I can get online with it though with firefox if necessary and can turn on TeaTimer and Kerio firewall. As time went by over the years did get some DX versions of my VST.Noteably BBE Sonic Maximiser which I rarely use these days as I have learned how to use my waves and Timeworks plugins and a free RGC plugin no longer available to rebuild the high frequencies on mp3s.A bit less processing power and memmory usage with Dx version.Interestingly some DX versions of the VST have a bigger footprint on the resources of the computer than the VST using a wrapper!
