Hey Big,
Did you name this computer and user the same as your other computer that you created all your tunes for MixMeister in (the original computer)? Not so much the computer name, but you need to have the same user name and place the tune in the same folder they were in just like from the computer they were in before. Hope that all sounds clear. Hi Banter,
Not sure what you mean, but as far as the external hard drive I copied a mirror image of it and loaded mixmeister on my 2nd laptop. But I am unable to load in the catalog. Id there a example or maybe more information on where to look to see if these settings do match?? Thanks for your help. Big T |

What you are describing doesn't sound like a complete process ... you should detail the steps you are using. From what you wrote, my first question would be ... did you import the actual tracks into the library? Importing a text file (which I assume is the catalog.mdb that you exported from your original set-up) would be only part of the process. If you are talking about an actual text file, then you've lost me.... Banter is referring to the way your audio files are stored on the two different drives -- if the songs are in C:\Music\Trance\2007 on the desktop, do you have a set of folders with the same names to hold your music on the laptop as well? If not, then importing the mdb file won't work. I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

Okay sorry if I lost anyone. This is the details of what I am doing. I have a external hard drive that holds my music. I recently just purchase a 2nd laptop. Both laptops are 9300 insprions (Dell). I have Mixmeister pro 6 installed on each computer. I exported my catalog to the external hard as well as burning it to a cd, to try and transfer the catalog to the new dell. When I try and load the catalog it will get to 36% everytime and then dissapper. As well as nothing will showed loaded. Now the external hard drive path for music is E:Music/ . Now that path hasn't Change. Sorry if I sound like a noob, But if you could give me more details on how to fix this step by step that would be great. I currrently have more deejays I am getting on the road and If i can figure out how to do this it would save me allot of time. Tom

Tom:
I'm still not getting this part: Did you import the audio tracks (not the catalog mdb file, but the actual audio files) into MixMeister on the new laptop? Did you click the "+" button, choose a folder and import the actual mp3 files into the program? Sorry to be dense, but I can't see in your post where you actually say whether you did this step or not... Maybe when you say "loaded the catalog" you mean "loaded the audio files" ??? If the problem is that you have an external HD with 30,000 audio files on it, and you try to load them into the Libary all at once, but the laptop chokes, then you might be able to get where you need to be by breaking down the process so you aren't doing so many files at one time. Is that the problem? I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

Okay I see, I am suppose to load in all the music by clicking on import files to libaray. If I do that how will it load my catagories. I havent loaded the music in the libaray. I thought if we import the catalog that it wouldnt be nescary to do that on the new machine. So If I go and load my 52,000 song list into the 2nd laptop, then what is the purpose of loading my catalog?? Will it break it all down in the catagories I have already?? Maybe if you can tell me the process if you were to buy a 2nd laptop and you wanted a mirror image of your orginal one for mix meister and its catagories. I can go and load the 52,000 song list but won't it try and replot all of the songs automaticly and will it give me the catagories if I load in the libaray, then load in the catalog. Thanks for your help, I never had to do this before.

Well, I could be wrong on this, because I haven't done it since using v.5 MM, but I thought you had to actually import the tracks and let MM scan them and calculate the BPM and key. Then importing the catalog mdb would restore the categories ...
People have reported difficulties with catalog import that were actually related to the pathname not being the same for each device (I think Banter had a post that involved an issue with his user name under Vista that illustrates the difficulties.) But I haven't heard of a catalog import quitting at around 30% and thought it might be because you hadn't actually imported the audio files into MM so they could be processed ... AFAIK, each iteration of the program on a different device (or two iterations on the same device) still need to import the audio files and analyze them as to BPM and key.... So, how about people? Am I misremembering? If so, if importing the catalog is supposed to be the "one stop shopping" solution, then Tom you need to take this to Technical Support .... ==================================================================== OK, let me revisit this, because I wrote it at work and later became concerned it could be totally FOS ... so now at home, I have booted up 2 different desktops ... each has v.6.1.6 installed, on one (newer PC) the catalog export is over 6mb while on the other (older PC) it is just over 4mb, so clearly one has access to tracks the other one doesn't. Note that the 6mb catalog has songs stored on a "K" drive; the other device doesn't have a "K" drive at all ... I copied the 6mb catalog export (which is in fact a text file, as you stated, not an mdb ... ) from one desktop to the other and imported it into MMP6 on the older computer. Results: The catalog import went along smoothly and did not stop part way through (meaning: not being able to find a particular file didn't cause it any issues.) OTOH, no songs referencing the "K" drive show up in the library after the import process concluded. In fact, it's almost as though the library didn't update at all (e.g. no songs were actually imported during the process), because the most recent date in the Date column is Dec. 2007 ... if new material had been added, I'd see "Oct 6 2008" in there ... This suggests you have an issue that will require Tech Support assistance ... sorry to have given you a pointless detour before -- this obviously needed a little fact-checking. bigt3725,
I have two Dell laptops. When I plug in my external drive, it comes up as E: on *both* laptops. Here's the easiest way that I've found, if Laptop A and Laptop B are identical and Laptop A has the latest catalog: 1.) Copy the catalog.mdb file from Laptop A to a flash drive. 2.) Copy the catalog.mdb file on the flash drive to Laptop B. That's it! The question becomes, "Where the heck is the catalog.mdb file located?" In order to see this file in Laptop A, you must: a.) Open Windows Explorer b.) Tools -> Folder Options -> View [tab] -> c.) Click on the "Show hidden files and folders" option. d.) Go to "My computer" -> double click on C: e.) Open "Documents and Settings" f.) Open the folder with your account name g.) Open "Application Data" h.) Open Mixmeister Technology" folder i.) Open "Mixmeister Engine 6" j.) And there it should be! When you connect up your external drive to Laptop B, all your music should show up in Mixmeister. No need to export to a text file, copy to a flash drive, copy to Laptop B, then re-import. Once again, this assumes that the external drive comes up with the same drive letter in both laptops. If it comes up as E: in Laptop A, and J: in Laptop B, then you have to do some drive letter renaming if you want to use the exact same catalog. Every now and then I back up my catalog.mdb file juuuust in case it gets corrupted at some point. Whew! Good luck! Live, Love, and Dance, DJ_Edgy |
