Studio 7 does not let me properly load large files or mixes i.e. an hour or longer. The file will display on the Library and even transfer to the Playlist but the music plot (music hills and valleys) do not show on the horizontal strips on the timeline so I cannot edit. Does anyone know how to solve this? Ultimately I am trying to rip some tracks from long mixes so I can use them as individual tracks when I DJ. Can someone recommend a simple program to do this?

i will be replying outside of studio 7 with my comment... but with pro6, whenever i load a file which is long in time length it has taken, on occasion, up to about 30 seconds for the peaks and dips to show. is your issue taking loner than that?

splitting long files into seperate tracks can be done with a variety of programs... however, audacity comes to mind and best of all... it's freeeee. click here ----> Get Audacity

yikes Eek

i am unable to assist with your issue as i do not use studio 7. i was merely expressing my experiences with "long" files when using pro6.

perhaps someone familiar with studio 7 can assist you. hope things work out for you.

but definitely give audacity a try. it's been years since ive had to use the program, but i do recall it being a fairly straightforward program.

I use Studio 7 and do not have this problem ... I recently loaded a folder of music into the library and didn't realize that the folder also had all my wma files of my past six months worth of sets uploaded to mmRadio -- average running time 75 mins per set ... Studio 7 scanned them in before I could even get them selected to delete them ...

What version of Studio 7 are you using -- your profile doesn't include that info. The latest version is 7.2.2.

What file format are these long files that Studio is struggling to scan? mp3, wma, wav?? Are the files stored on your C drive or on some external drive?

More information would help in sorting out your problem...

I'd forgotten that write-up of yours, Tim -- it's excellent. With regard to point 4 (the CPU intensive nature of the program) I would also add: Let the computer scan without trying to do other work (especially within Fusion) at the same time ... just as when you are burning a disc, it is best to let the processor alone to concentrate on the work at hand.

I am using the latest vesion od Studio 7 (7.2.2), the files I am trying to process are 3, 5 and 7 hour DJ sets. None are loading correctly. They are stored on my desktop and are all mp3.

Tim,

I tried following your suggestions but had no results. I also tried on 2 different computers (Mac and PC) and still no results.

Ah, OK, now I see what you're trying to do. Although I have not tried to do this since using the 7 series of the software, I do know that there were filesize limitations in the previous generation of software (6 and before). I don't recall what those were, but I do remember trying to load a full mixed-out mp3 set into the program at some point, and it would not load it. It was probably around 2 hours, as I recall--was either in WAVE or high bitrate mp3 format.

I'm sure there's a reason that you want to load these large files into the program--for editing or looping additional layers, whatever, but it may not be possible. The program was designed to load and process sets on a track by track basis.

For more information on max filesize importation information, contact technical support directly at:

http://www.mixmeister.com/support_morehelp.html

Explain what you're trying to do, and ask them about a filesize importation limit.

FYI, I've experienced this problem in other audio software as well. A 7 hour file (which is quite large) is probably also going to be a no go in most audio software packages. Many packages will generate files this long, but many will not read them.
