Hello everyone!
Hopefully my first post on these forums will be beneficial to others who have been perplexed by an issue that is seemingly random. I also hope I don't offend the mods by making a new discussion but I feel this would be a better use of my time than trying to post my comment to each thread that deals with the same topic. The problem: You have created a killer mix and want to share it with your friends, their friends, and friends of their friends but at some point, if not the entire mix, you have complete silence. Complete buzzkill. Makes you question the software and want to say bad words but you're better than that! I, too, experienced this issue with a couple mixes I created over the summer and the whole "but I can hear it in MM, it should write to file" thing threw me for a loop. So, being a nosy fellow, I examined the file properties for the offending songs and noticed that they shared a common issue, the Owner was listed as the default Administrator account. Now, for more technical background...the machine I use runs Windows Vista Home Premium and I am using Mixmeister Studio 7.3.2.0. Because I use this machine primarily for work, it has a couple user accounts on it. I noticed the files that actually burned were owned by the MACHINENAME\ACCOUNT versus the trouble files that were owned by ADMINISTRATOR. I did a quick google for Vista file ownership and stumbled on this handy article at http://www.vistax64.com/vista-...-file-ownership.html. I opened up the command prompt, ran the command, and recreated a short mix of songs that had appeared in previous mixes as silence. Voila! The songs were now sounding...music to my ears. I recommend you verify with a short mix of 2 or 3 songs and change the permissions for those only and then recreate the output sound file after you have modified the Owner property. Good luck! |

That's an interesting breakdown of an issue many people have posted about ... I can't verify any of it because I have avoided Vista like the plague ... and honestly, if this is one of the issues that arises out of using Vista, then I'm really glad I did
From what I understand, this type of issue will evaporate with W7, but we don't know yet what other squirrely stuff will pop up instead -- hopefully nothing this strange. Thanks for sharing your research with us, and hopefully someone else who has had this "silence" issue in the past will take the time to check out your solution and confirm. I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

I too have also run into this issue, not with Studio 7 but with Express 6. Also it has happened to me on an XP machine about 3 times in 9 months. I have had this happen both running MM in an live environment as well as playing a mix that has been mixed down and exported. I have had this happen once while running MM live while on a Vista machine but that was user error on my part and I have yet to recreate the problem on Vista. When it happened on XP the few times it has happened I could not recreate the problem with the same playlist containing the suspected songs.
When I ran into this problem on Vista it was because when I hit play I did not move the mouse off the play button. In MM Express 6 when you hit play the button then becomes a pause button. Because of how the booth is set up where I was at you can not hear the front of house. So in order to monitor what is being played you have to have the monitors up pretty loud, or at least I did so I could hear the booth while being back stage. Most laptops have those mouse pads that are touch sensitive. So you can tap on it like clicking a button. So because I didn't move the mouse off the play button when it became a pause button and having the monitors up loud, the vibration from the monitors paused the play of MM. This has only happened to me once and this was on a Vista machine. The other times it has stopped I am not sure why it happened but I have failed to recreate the problem when using the same songs it has happened on again when on XP. What I have also found strange is I will preview each mix I.E. the fade out from song to song and it played fine. But when I played the play list live for some reason it stopped. When it happens if it happens again I will look into the file permission for which the song it stopped on and report my findings. Hope this helps others.
