Hi,
I'm new to MM, and I'm trying to use overlays. I have 4 samples that I'm using to theme my mix by repeatedly slotting them in to appropriate parts of tracks. The program lets me insert the overlays and sometimes they work, playing over the primary track as expected. However, often, they just don't play. I've tried adding volume markers, to no avail. They also stop and start working seemingly at random. adding one overlay will sometimes seem to stop a nearby overlay working, even though they are not touching and are different samples. Can anyone help? many thanks! ...also, if anyone knows, sometimes it adds an overlay on the same line as the primary track. this is awkward because the program won't let me select and edit the overlay. it always assumes I'm clicking the primary track that it's literally sat ontop of. is there a way of avoiding this problem? |

Just wanted to update this as I've been playing with it for days now, and learned a bit more.
Ann overlay will tend to work repeated times, until another track appears in that same timeline row. after this it does appear on the timeline, but simply does not play. |

I think it would help us respond to you if you would post a screenshot.
In fact, this should not be happening:
It's one track per strip or row on the timeline, only, ever. Depending on the view you have chosen (2, 4, 6 or 8 strips at a time) they stagger down the screen and then start again at the top ... this is a visual device, but in no way implies that (taking the 4 strip view for example) the track on strip 1 and the track on strip 5 are "on the same row" because they are not. You never mentioned what view you are using: 2, 4, 6 or 8? If you don't use enough views, it can look like the overlay has disappeared. I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

thanks for replying, getting a bit worried I'll never be able to sort this out...
here is a screenshot from one overlay issue: This one shows an overlay which is in the first (top) strip. In this case, the overlay works. However, adding it has stopped the next track (the one titled "adam") from playing!!! Now, once "Thrill" has transitioned into "Adam", there is no sound at all, just silence. I'd appreciate any advice on how this problem can be overcome, as it's probably my fault. (I'll post an example of an overlay that just fails to play in a moment.) This message has been edited. Ok, here is an example of an overlay not playing:
This time the overlay (3a) is in the second strip. When the line moves over it, the primary track is playing fine, but the overlay track cannot be heard. This is occurring in at least half of the overlays I apply to this mix! Please help and let me know what I'm doing wrong. Many thanks. |

Claudio, sorry, but there's nothing I can see in your screen shot that looks any different from what I see in one of my own mixes that uses overlays (except that I don't put the overlays into those little rectangular boxes below the playlist on the right ... )
Granted, most of my overlay tracks do have volume markers placed on them to modulate the volume throughout the play time ... but even if you don't use the V marker, you should still hear sound at 0.0 level. You may need to contact Tech Support for this issue. I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |
