Here's an image from the Studio7 workspace, showing two standard tracks (8 and 9) and one overlay track (8a):
I understand that because of the way the "strips" view works in MM, track 8a doesn't have a user-friendly visual relationship with track 8 -- though you can see in the Playlist that 8a follows (e.g. is overlaid on) track 8. However, as per the text note on the image, if I move the anchor of TRACK 9 in either direction, track 8a slides on the timeline along with the movement of track 9 and out of the alignment I chose between 8 and 8a ... what's up with that? I've placed my overlay track 8a where I need it to be in relation to track 8 ... AFAIC, 8a should move only in response to changes I make in track 8, because those two tracks are related (and if I move the track 8 anchor, 8a does move along with it.) Or else track 8a should not move AT ALL unless I slide it along the timeline (which is how it worked in v.6) But what 8a should NOT do is move in response to a change in track 9. I understand that moving the anchors between two successive tracks makes for relative repositioning in both the tracks, but I'd rather the overlay positioning was absolute: wherever I put it in relation to its standard track (e.g. 8 and 8a) is where it should stay. Why doesn't it? 'Splain me, please.... I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

No explanation (I'm afraid that would be very difficult - if possible at all), just one question / suggestion:
Have you tried moving the overlay track in the playlist before track 8? Chances are that the overlay will stay at the same horizontal position in the timeline (though it will switch its vertical position with track 8), and that, after that, moving track 9 will not influence the overlay position...
