Here is the situation, let’s see if we can figure this out.
I have a Dell, when I format the computer it asks me to name my computer. I just leave that alone. The next question most computers will ask you to fill in during formatting is “user profile name”. However, this does not seem to hold true with a Dell when formatting with Windows XP. It is the second or third time I have run into this problem but this time it is affecting me. Why, because I did a back-up of all me tunes from MixMeister Fusion and knowing to add my music back in after I reformat I must have the same user name so that the file extension is correct. So I go into user settings and change the user name from “Owner” (as Dell would put it) to Banter as I would want it. I click finish, reboot and low and behold it shows the name Banter however the real file extension is “Owner”. If anyone understands what I mean I could really use the help here. Hope everyone is enjoying the wonderful summer! Banter |

OK, I'm not embarrassed to step up and say I don't know what the @#$%!&*$%#@$ you are talking about Banter
How can a log-in identity have any effect on a file extension? By file extension, most people mean ".txt" or ".mp3" or ".exe". However, you say it shows the name Banter however the real file extension is “Owner”. so I think we can't be talking about the same thing when we say "file extension".... Hopefully, I am the only person who is confused by this and someone else will pop up out of the woodwork and set us both straight ... Anyone?????? I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

Note the Following is being done in Windows XP
Thanks D-Mixx, you have it… Meaning you get what I am explaining. See Madame in Fushion (I can not speak for other versions) (that’s why I wrote it in Fusion help…. Anyways…. In fusion, if you do a data backup of your work, one song of thousands will look as follows: C:\Documents and Settings\Banter\Desktop\blaablaablaa… Now if you reformat your computer you need to have the same file extension (including the user name) or MixMeister can not find it. This is what it looks like when I try to re-enter it back into MixMeister: Settings\Owner\Desktop\blaablaablaa Not the same: Settings\Banter\Desktop\blaablaablaa… Settings\Owner\Desktop\blaablaablaa… So I change the user name and delete the file and re-enter it and even though my user name reads Banter the file extension of all songs I enter come out as “Owner” and not “Banter”. Then I try to do as you say D-Mixx and the computer just boggs down. I have reformatted three times now trying different ways. I and a new user called Banter (everything slows down) I add a new user called Banter then delete the “Owner” account (same result) Now I know this is not a MixMeister problem, I am just wondering if anyone can help me with this issue. Thanks and I hope I gave a better insight Madame and hope D-Mixx or someone else may have a record up their sleeve :] Why the big change? Because I think I am about to come a Vista user however this problem is happening in XP. Banter |

Thanks Banter, I get it now ... your concern is with the pathname (e.g., the Settings\Owner\Desktop\blaablaablaa…
bit) and how changes to the pathname affect MM finding your files. Sounds like a registry thing .... I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

Yes, you have it Madame…
I was under a little stress the first time I wrote in this post. Short on time too. If only Dell or this Dell computer asked me what name I wanted as a USER then I would not be in this boat. Just wondering if all Dells do this. I know this is the second one that has done this to me. Oh well. I will have to wait a couple weeks until I get the new computers so I can load MM and have fun playing with my music I guess. Thanks for dealing with my stress :] Banter |

This sounds like one of those situations where exporting your Library and using e.g. Excel to do a "search and replace" would be helpful ... changing "Owner" to "Banter" as in the example you provided.
That used to be the instruction people were given when they had made a change to their computers or to their music files storage method (e.g., from internal HD to external) that resulted in the pathname being altered and MM having trouble finding the files. Alternatively, since you are gettng new equipment, you'll have another shot at getting it the way you want it during set-up. But keep the "search and replace" option in mind in case things go awry again.... I got something for your mind, your body and your soul. |

Thanks for the suggestion Madame. I will give that a shot (keep that in mind) if I do have a problem when I get the new laptops.
I better not have problems, LOL! Banter |
