I use fusion Video, I have 3 x pc for backup. I set up MM on my laptop and needed to copy songs, playlists, library etc from laptop to Desktop. Here is what I did, did I do this right ? is there a better way ?
I originally built MM, library and playlist on laptop using external Hard drive E
I exported library which created a text file based on E
I edited text file ( find replace) to change drive name from E (external HDD)) to C (desktop drive)
I copied all music files from E to C on desktop
I opened MM on desktop and imported library.....edit tag showed all library entries had C driver reference
I connected externsll HDD E to desktop and opened playlist #1 located on E, the original playlist built on laptop using E. The tags on playlist songs showed E drive
I saved playlist as...same name but on C drive of PC in a sister folder to all the songs
I disconnected the external HDD drive E
I clicked 'save playlist
...........all the entried on the play list now referenced, as if magically, the C drive. MM seemed to know once I disconnected the original drive that the playlist referenced, E, to look for the same files, found them on C and re-referenced the playlist to drive C.. Thus I had moved songs, library, playlist(with mixes) from one computer to another......there has gotta be a better way.pls advise

actually my entry above was not quite correct. after disconnecting the hdd I deleted the play list. I re opened the new playlist from the C drive, click save play list again and the entries on the new play list now reference songs on the C drive and not the E drive as per the original play list

I'm using Fusion (not video), but this is what I do to create a backup plus get files transferred for use with a 2nd PC (laptop), if it's of any use to you(Windows XP, btw):

I keep my "master" Fusion + music .MP3 files on a desktop, but also copy to a laptop and an external USB HDD for backup purposes. Actually, I transfer from desktop to external HDD then from external HDD to laptop. This has the added benefit of testing the integrity of the external HDD.

I do this by keeping all my .MP3 files/folders in a single folder on drive D: of my desktop.
I also backup to drive D: the Fusion catalog (file "catalog.mdb" and folder "Archive", which holds the .mxm files, in "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\MixMeister Technology\MixMeister Engine 7") to a folder on drive D: of my desktop. You have a choice of where to keep the .mxm files ... in MMF use "Tools...Options...Plot Files" to select where they live ... mine live in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\MixMeister Technology\MixMeister Engine 7\Archive\).
I also keep my playlist .mmf files in another folder in the desktop drive D:

I copy all this drive D: stuff to the external HDD (and so create a backup), then plug the external HDD to my laptop, which I've setup to see the external HDD as D:.
I now copy the external HDD Fusion catalog files/folders to the laptop's "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\MixMeister Technology\MixMeister Engine 7", and that's it. The laptop has all my latest plot files and catalog, plus see's all .MP3s on the connected external HDD. Of course, if you wanted to copy the .MP3s from the external HDD to the laptop, then this would be easy to do (i.e. create a drive D: as a partition on your laptop, map the external HDD as E:, or whatever, and copy the files over).

Hope that helps.

Neb.
