I like to request my first "ever" Trance mix to air on your show. It is called:

DJ Andre - Die leichtere Seite der Trance

Enjoy!

Excellent news Andre! I'll add it either tonight (if it pops up in my catalog before I turn in) or first thing in the morning.

I really wanna hear this mix! Going to give us any clues what you've put in it?

Track selection is interesting, for the most part it's vocal trance although I would prefer some more sections of pure trance music without a vocal hook to "identify" every song.

Mixwise apart from the one I posted just now it was pretty much flawless.

Like I've said in the past though trance should be mixed for the "set" or "story" rather than for the "tunes" - Granddaddy has got it, DnC (where the hell are you?) has it, I like to think I might have it but in places your mix fell into the latter - example the Tiesto tune was used far to early and upset the flow a bit.

But, having said that you put a unique spin on the genre and in parts the set was absolutely fantastic. I really hope you'll submit a new trance set soon.

"ropey", "pure trance", and "story"?

First I have no clue what ropey means? Are you referring to the term "ropes" like "climbing"? Please define?

"Pure trance"? What is that exactly? And how can it possibly tell a "story" when there are no vocals? Bang-Bang-Bang!

I tend to edit and slice up maybe the best parts. I hate a 10 minute track. I tend to edit it out and make a tight 3 or 4 min track. I also edit the "ambient-no-beats" parts. I like it "dancer friendly". But since this is my first try at trance. I will keep on trying to understand the terminology. Though I try not to mix like everyone else.

Did you at least notice the amount of tracks used? And did you hear the nice overlays?

The German translation of the title is, "The Lighter Side of Trance".

Thanks for the report.

I will submit more mixes as soon as I get another batch of tracks to work with. I am upset somewhat that I didn't have enough "dub" and "instrumental" beats to work with. But I did extend segements to seperate as much as possible the vocals. Thought I did do a medley portion of pop rock vocals at a certain part just for kicks. But I like to experiment.

Okay, I'll try and clarify Big Grin

Ropey I can't explain the origins of unfortunately but it means a bit "rough", less than polished - i.e. not a perfect transition. I'll stop short of calling it a trainwreck 'cos it wasn't but for a DJ of your calibre it should have been more refined.

"Pure Trance" is something you will hear me discuss a lot, essentially when the genre first started it was named after the hypnotic rythms that the were repeated and added to gradually to really take you into a "trance" - a hook so beautiful that you would almost not notice that the added layers took you someplace. You don't get that so much since '99 when ATB etc. hit the mainstream and the definition of the genre was narrowed somewhat.

Telling a story is not a literal thing, you are not talking Jack and the Beanstalk bedtime stuff here you are freeing the mind to go on a journey - probably the best example are early Ozric Tentacles LPs (not trance by the way) which really transport you to another place than your room + stereo. Personally I don't think that the current "trance" sound does that too well but that is just me.

As far as the technical side goes I did notice the "pop rock medley" and I thought that was great, and like I said apart from the one mix I thought it was flawless in that respect, and as I said, it was a unique take on trance that I would like to hear more of and I believe that it would be particularly "dancer friendly" which is fine to the less discerning "trance ear" than me but I believe you have it in you to do a real "set" as opposed to a trance "mix" and I may have been a little too objective in my critique as I really want to hear you do something on that level.

Perhaps to illustrate (and by way of putting my money where my mouth is) you might like to do a trance music tagteam with me?

Good.. As soon as I get enough tracks in the next few months. I'll give it a whirl.

I have gotten several mixes from several of you. Though I do see how you guys build your sets. And that is easy for me to figure out. But I tend to find other ways. Would you be content that I do one for you the way you are used to hearing them? And then you can just let me be myself on the next ones? You know, let me have fun with them.

Monk- Let's do it... you and I.

Andre- Did I miss the reply concerning "mm Rat Pack?" is this famed after the MM Jedi's? Maybe we should have a Rat Pack vs. the Jedi's MM tag team battle?

Look in the Psy's thread about his new victory of his latest contest. You asked there and I answered. Cheers! Big Grin

On the battle? Are you almost done? It's been three weeks now. Since I noticed you had time to toss some fresh ones on mmRadio.

Not being rude, but don't waste your time on those tagteams that get lost. It's too difficult to have a group of DJ's be in one state of mind..

Well that's what I think what happened with the Tagteam of Hell 2. It would have been bigger than our first battle! I think.

As for the battle.. Dude whenever you feel ready.. I have finished mine. I started on the day I posted that thread. So I am ready. OntheBeat, are you ready? Let me know?

Also, hopefully you also entered on the Mashed Up contest. That was fun for me.

LoL... TTFH2 is still rollin', just not at super sonic speed... which is fine for me since I'm limited on time and will be out of the USA until after Christmas...

That's the beauty of the tag teams; we are all in a different state of mind and bring so many flavors to the table. I think this tag team will be really unique from the very first one I was involved in. Everyone has picked up on new methods and has increased their skills dramatically.

We shall battle; I will not and have not forgotten...
