Hi,

Someone's heard my webcasting gigs in Second Life and they've invited me to a party with almost certainty that I will take over from the DJ part way through the night... they've hired a standard mobile DJ and want someone to mix some dance stuff later on in the night.

Fortunately this person has turned out to be very helpful, as far as they can be, trying to promote me to their friends, she knows a lot of club owners, many of whom will be there, so I need to impress! But she doesn't know anything about DJ set-up and that's also my problem, neither do I! Extreme Mix!

I've been using MM Fusion and DJing on air for a few months, but that's just webcasting the output through a shoutcast server (and I will put that notice together for you DnC/Madamefly!), but now I need to plug into the PA system that'll be set up. I've ordered myself an Edirol UA-25 USB soundcard to go with my laptop, but is there anything else I need, such as cables or other hardware?

I really don't have a clue about live performances in a party/club setting so any help would be hugely appreciated.

I can't help with specifics, since I don't do the live thing, but here are two forums you would want to scan, if you haven't already:

Fusion Live and Direct

and

Hardware.

Good luck!

Thanks MadameFly Big Grin, found exactly what I was looking for in the Hardware section. Should have looked myself, but time just seems to be disappearing at the moment and I'm meant to be working!

In case anyone else is interested, the details can be found on this thread.

Here's hoping I get to take the stage on Saturday!

All I need for my gigs is my laptop, a good multi channel soundcard, and a good mixer. The soundcard I use is the Indigo DJ by Echo Audio. It is small but sounds great and fits right into the PCM slot on my laptop. Then I just plug into my mixer (Pioneer DJM 800) and hook into the clubs sound system. And away we go!

Is a mixer a necessity, or just something that's good o have when you know what you're doing with it?

Depends. If you plan on using the mixer for other things ie. Turntables, CD Player, Some other device you plan on using, then the answer is yes.

Typically they are not a necessity unless you're going to need it.

Thanks DnC, perfect answer! I've already overspent on my credit card this month! lol

I'll be using MM for the whole thing so no need to get a mixer.

Yay, I'm all set to go... provided the soundcard turns up, they're out of stock until Wednesday! Let's hope DHL get there act into gear and actually deliver on the next day!

If you're using Fusion, the need for a mixer becomes somewhat redundant. Better to get yourself a USB controller for it instead. I just started using Fusion at live gigs this past weekend. Flawless. I do cart a standard PC to my performances because I have multiple drive redundancy built-into this system (entire library is backed up when I go). It also contains an M-Audio 1010 Delta soundcard with 10 channel output (5 stereo pairs). The M-audio comes with a digital software mixing deck to control additional external audio devices. I've found the combo here to be more than adequate to handle needs (add'l microphone, cd-mixing, etc.) I cart a total of 5 pieces to my gigs--PC tower; 2 bags for 19" flatscreen, kb/mouse, battery backup and cables; 2 monitors. More than a laptop DJ, less than a traditional DJ.
