Hello all,
I currently use PCDJ FX for mobile gigs because it is better suited for much of what I do. However, I also own MM5 Pro and would like to use it for events when I want/need a lot of non-stop mixing and don't feel like actually standing there and mixing it myself. I have an HD dedicated to my PCDJ music library with over 100GB of MP3s and was curious if anyone else is using these two apps (or MM5Pro & anyother DJ app) and how they set up there music library/catalog? Should I have MM scan my entire music HD and catalog all of the files?? I would just like to get feedback from anyone who may already have gotten to this bridge and crossed it ;-) Happy mixing! D. |

I use PCDJ FX and MM Pro 6. They both share the same hard drive for music without any problems. Of course, each application has it's own songlist and pathway to the music.

Thanks for the reply!
I aksed this question because when I had MM5 scan the drive that houses my mp3 library and PCDJ playlist, for some reason the PCDJ data got corrupted (BPMs did not display correctly in PCDJ. Everyone appeared to be divided by 10???)This occurred after MM5 built plot files for the MP3s on the drive. Does MM5 write or change anything in the file tag? or does it just store the file info (BPMs etc) with the plot files? You said "each application has it's own songlist and pathway to the music". By pathway do you mean that music for MM6 is kept in a seperate folder or partition on the same drive as the PCDJ music? If so, you would have to have dupicate copies of music to share them between apps? I have all of my files in folders by genre or type (Urban, Country, 50-60s etc)which are under the root directory of the drive and I would like to be able to share any or all of the files between apps. However, having to rescan almost 200 gigs of files for BPMs for PCDJ was a REAL drag. BTW, I use MixMeister BPM anylizer for the BPM scans for PCDJ and MP3 gain for the gain adjustments. FYI: I actually have MM6 Pro, not MM5. Thanks in advance for your input! Derek |

I will say this about PCDJ. For it's time it was a great program. However they just can't seem to keep pace with the competition, at least not from my perspective. I assume they cleaned up most of the bugs that FX was plagued with when it was released however I am skeptical that they will ever solve all the problems. Hopefully they will and I may start using it again.
I have found that virtually all DJ software has issues although MM seems to have fewer than most. At least MM Pro 4 did not give me any problems other than not recognizing 100% of my library. PCDJ seems to have more problems in this and several other areas, especially FX. I ran the first version of BLUE for years but it did have it's little quirks. Have you tried Serato? I've yet to try it on a PC but I can tell you it's outstanding on a MAC! |

I actually use 3different programs for different situations. For Elememtary and middle school functions where beatmixing is not a major concern, I use PCDJ. For Restaurant Happy Hour performances (I'm the music director for a chain of restaurants and sports bars), Iuse MM Pro 6 in the standard mixing format so it sounds more like radio. For Club gigs< I use Fusion, and now I'm mixing video as well.
