I am having a hard time trying to restore tracks that were "tweaked" from Pro 5 or Pro 4 for Express 5.

I got my wife started with Express 5, but I am having a difficult time having to share the same music files I use in Pro 5.

It seems that when I "save the current track settings as new catalog default" on a particular track in either Pro 5 or Pro 4. The track goes with the Pro 5 tweak when I transfer the track to the different PC. I'd like for her to get "unaltered" tracks so she can get started in the world of mixing.

Please help? I don't want to re-rip everything.

That is a tough one.

The default track settings are stored in the ID3 tag, which is how the information sticks with the MP3 file.

In Pro 5, you can delete a tracks default track settings by opening the right click menu in the catalog and clicking "Restore MixMeister's Original Track Settings." You may need to close MixMeister to have the changes written to the MP3 file. Keep in mind that this will destroy the settings you want to retain in Pro 5.

The only solution I can think of is as follows:
1) Backup all of your MP3 files as well as defaultmixes.dat.
2) Run "Restore MixMeister's Original Track Settings" on the entire catalog.
3) Copy the active MP3 files over to the other machine.
4) Restore the original MP3 files.

I know this isn't the greatest solution. I hope it is of some help.

Thanks Aaron, but that's just a little too risky. If I figure out a way, I will let ya know.

I am playing with the idea to reconvert the MP3s to the same or different bitrate, once I move them to my wife's PC. Maybe this will rewrite the track files.

You could install MMPro 5 on MrsAndre's machine, copy the mp3 files and the defaultmixes.dat over to the second machine, then restore the original track settings. This would be done entirely on her machine, then Import all of the tracks into Express 5 and remove MMPro 5.

Just a thought.

Well, I started to think that this is gonna make me spend more time on letting the new Pro 5 in my wife's machine to plot everything.

I am just gonna go with my plan. Convert the MP3s to a different or same bitrate. This is faster for me at this point. Thanks to Nero.

Aaron,

I have just purchased a second computer and I plan to use MM on that one. I have all of my MP3's on an external hard drive. I have many songs tweaked and I don't want to lose them. You mention that the tweak information is stored as a tag in the mp3. Then what are all of those mxm files in the Archive folder of the MixMeister Engine 5 directory? Do I need to copy those files into my new computer?

I have just read the help but it doesn't really explain what the procedures in the event that you have to re-install MM and you want to make sure that those mp3s don't lost their tweaks. Can you or anybody else give me the answer to this. What should I do and what should I definetely not do.

Thanks,

DJ Santiago

Your archive folder holds your plots. This way when you drag an old track it doesn't need to replot each time. The plot will only work if you new machine has the same directory structure per song. If it doesn't, it's gonna assume they are new tracks (tweaks won't be lost) but a bigger archive is gonna create.

You can either avoid transfering the archive folder to the new machine. Or transfer the archive folder and do a clean up on the catalog afterwards. And if you happen to lose any tweaks, keep in mind that the tweaks are still on your old machine, and you can always use a mmp file to transfer the settings to the new machine.
