I'm not fully satisfied with the audio-stretching. For live playback or previewing it's great, but when exporting I would expect a better algorithm to be used. The quality of these stretching tools varies a lot, but the quality of f.ex. Prosoniq TimeFactory is unbeatable. This would give final mixes a very pro-sound.
Sometimes the beat is matched in the slicer, but with a wrong offset. It would be nice if you could nudge the offset 1-3 beats to make it match perfectly. |

I'm fully with you with your wish for better time stretching quality, but I think it's possible to nudge the offset by simply dragging the 'beatbar' on top of the slicer in the desired direction. Hope this helps.

Odyssey5,
I consider MMF to be for two type groups in general: 1) the person who throws house parties and could not be bothered with a perfect mix.. 2) the professional DJ who uses it in clubs or is retired and still likes kickin with music. For the party go’er or player it is great to just stick some songs into playlist and make cocktails at the same time. For the professional Jock “ANY SONG CAN BE TWEEKED” to make all mixes sound professional (Fact!).. The following are two links to help you understand MMF a whole lot better. How I got started with MMF: http://community.beatmixing.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/685605445/m/1921088581 Wildr’s example of how to use the “SongSlicer” http://community.beatmixing.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6881038761/m/3891003181 I hope this helps you understand that MMF is for Professional use and Good Luck to you. True, but it should still be improved. Audio stretching compared from MMF and Sony Sound Forge is noticeable, where Sony stretch audio is way better. Those articles you wrote is great, but you can still notice distortion even if you master MMF.

here is another vote for a better time stretch algorithm!
i love the DJ SCREW style and when you're slowing songs down in mixmeister you'll notice the algorithm doesn't stand up against ableton/traktor/etc. that and the lack of configurable hot keys have kept me from committing to mixmeister, but i love the DAW style for mixing. so i keep checking back every once in a while to see if things have improved |

hi neb, thanks for the response. the last version i tried was 7.0 something so i should try the latest fusion and see how it sounds against the tools im using now.
i'm a bit spoiled for time stretch by ableton and the open-source soundtouch ... and since i'm making mixes, sound quality is the most important thing! but the ease of use i see in mixmeister has me checking these boards every so often. the daw interface is really unique and i wish the MM team would spend less time with ipod toys and video features and stick to a core functionality list (so much software in this world is killed by feature creep). because interface-wise they are worlds ahead of other mixing software out there, it's only a sound quality issue. also, can anyone say if the same timestretch is used on the mac versions as is used on the pc versions? |

Due to the nature of time stretching I doubt that your going to get any algorithm for perfect sound for every song. The more annoying thing is that there is already a solution to this problem, which will work for every song and give 100% clarity with no distortion.
Put simply: Disable timestretching and simply use standard pitch controls. So instead of increasing or decreasing the gaps between chunks of audio, to maintain the same pitch. Why not simply speed up or slow down the song to the required BPM. I'm not saying get rid of timestretching at all its a great feature and very powerful, but have the option to choose both. |
