Thanks for ruining my ID3 tags!!!!! Just loading mp3's into MM, makes it rewrite the tags, but ignoring any unicode characters and replacing it with CRAP instead! FIX IT!

Since you obviously rewrite tags anyway, it would be nice if you actually wrote something useful in them, like BPM and KEY.

Besides that, MM seems a fantastic way to quickly make great mixes, but it could need a few tweaks.

Edit: Moved the requests to the right forum.

Can't help but wonder, did you edit this post to make it nicer than it was originally?

Oh yes, that's EXACTLY what "Moved the requests to the right forum" means! Take a look there to see the requests (which I may not be the only one thinks is more appropiate)

So 'Moved the requests to the right forum' means that you added posts to the 'wishlist' rather than all in one post here right? If so, thanks for doing that- it makes it much easier to reply and keep on topic, and if you see This Post from MM_Aaron you can see that having done that would certaibly be beneficial for the Dev team.

Oh and BTW the Tag detail that you think is 'crap' is most likely the code used to store the BPM and Keycode data which is readable by MixMeister.

If that got 'Fixed', then MM would need to scan/check for BPM/Key EVERY time you load it - something that I'm sure would be far more annoying and affect far more users.

Unfortunately ANY software that calculates BPM or Keycode or other Audio specific data needs to store that data somewhere and WRT MP3's the Tag's seems to be the place of choice.

I can understand your frustration with this - one of the first jobs I'm sure any of us does once downloading or Ripping music is to correct the Tag detail - would be Soooo much easier if there was a recognised/supported specific format of completing Tag data!

I'm not sure if you understand me correctly.

First off I don't understand why MM needs to rewrite tags, as it seems not to store anything - I thought it did, but appearently it just uses it's mxm files for that.

After throwing my files into MM, all special (usually unicode) characters were converted to something like "Ãe" instead of the actual character. So if I want to keep my tags untouched, I would need to make seperate copys of the files I want to use in MM. Try yourself.

I can confirm the problem with special characters. I'm not very happy either that all my carefully collected tags have been hosed.
Now I have new artist names, albums, etc.

This is not something to be proud of, as developers.

I would be happy to have someone review this problem if you can provide a sample of some kind. Please contact me using the email address in my profile.

NOT CHOSING SIDES AT ALL…
Just sharing advice from my mistakes.

Knowing MixMeister as well as any music program would mess with my tags I decided to purchase an external hard drive to store all my music on with the tags edited to my liking. This way MixMeister can do what it needs to do with a copy of my music so it can work as totally functional as is needed. As Wildr mentioned above, any programs that need to compute will leave changes to your tunes.

So, I keep my original music in a safe place away from everything.
I even keep MixMeister and the music loaded into the “PlayList(s)” Far away from the internet. If I need something I just download it from another computer and transfer it after it has been scanned with a virus protection of course.

Did you ever notice that you changed a song tag and the next time you played that song the tag was not the way lat put it? This does not just happen to music store in the “MY MUSIC” section of your computer. The reason why is because your computer is always trying to match you music up with tunes of or the same like on the net so it can edit those freakin tags (and make them wrong again). I am not saying this is why your Artist Names and Albums are different Urlwolf. I just know that you can turn off everything and even tell programs not to search for the latest music info, but for some reason it will anyway. After about four months of changing these tags back to my liking I finally gave up. I purchased an external hard drive to save one set of music “MY WAY” and I purchased a separate laptop just for MixMeister and my music. Expensive, YES! However all the work you put into MixMeister and YOUR music is well worth it!

Always have an original backup of your music before you start anything.

good comments banter.

you're missing another important reason for doing your setup.... when one of the HD crashes, egads!

just curious, do you use software to copy the files over or do you do it manually? also, do you flag the backup files as read only?

Your correct Phreaq, I figured that went without question however I am glad you brought it up. Without a doubt that is a major reason to back all your music and music programs up on an external hard drive!

I manually transfer my music over Phreaq
I am not sure how you are asking you next question…. “do you flag the backup files as read only”?
Before I start working on any music I go to my computer w/o MixMeister and I disconnect from the internet. Then I set my tags…. Transfer the music to my external and then to my laptop. I do not flag anything or what I call (Lock it up for read only). I am just not into that. I just protect the music I own.

Also I have a complete copy of all my MM Folders (to include a copy of the mp3 file as well as the matching MXM file) saved to my external hard drive. Another reason to have that external hard drive!

Thanks for the questions Phreaq!

@Banter
Theory is everything? Well, you should go read on some of the stuff you try to teach others.

Why do you bring this topic on another track? I'm reporting a bug in mixmeister - This bug has been aknownledged by urlwolf and now the developers.

As I said, MM does not change any info in the tags, it stores all it's info in the mxm files (not even BPM values are tagged!).

Besides that it just sounds like you flame Windows Media Player for ruining your tags, and well... Try to disable it in options (as most programs are able to)

Besides that, I don't see any reason to keep a duplicate of all my music, just to be able to mix some of it. My backup is stored elsewhere.

Odyssey5, sorry you feel that way…. I try to help others as I did you. If I could not help you, I am sorry. My thing is not to defend myself to anyone but to give the best help I can. If I fell short of what ever you were looking for then again I say, “I am sorry”. Now I am confused.

BTW:I do not write, “Theory Is Everything” to gloat about myself…. That is for sure! I simply came up with the phrase so that if other people think about something long enough and think about it in theory…. They just might be able to figure out their own problem when others can not help. That’s all that is meant by it. I am sorry if it offends you.
