The BPM isn't detected for any of my songs, even the MixMeister ones... it just stays on the "Scanning..." status.
Plot file directory is fine, plenty of hard drive space... tried re-installing too. Any ideas ??? |

How many tracks are you importing in one go? Have you tried just importing 1 track by itself? Do the tracks have any sort of DRM? Do you have any background applications running?

I've added a directory of 15 mp3's (no DRMs), and tried dragging different ones to my playlist.
I also tried to run the program first thing after my computer loads. Background applications: - Intel Wireless & Bluetooth Manager (can't disable it) - IPod Service - ITunes Helper |

This sounds like the same problem me and few other users are having. Scanning just seems to stop in the library, leaving several tracks that just "scanning". Even when I drop them into the playlist they still just say scanning. I can interminently get it to work by closing and reopening MM with the tracks in the playlist, but it doesn't work everytime.
My computer is AMD Turion 64 x2 (1.6GHz), 2Gb RAM, XP Pro with the latest version of MM7. |

I noticed with Fusion that it scans the BPM information just fine for me but does not store it in the ID3 metadata like BPM Analyzer.

Hi guys,
I am still having problems with the whole scanning issue even with MM Fusion + video 7.1.1.0. I still have not seen a fix in the forums. Anyone else still have this problem?? |

Hi VMMDJ,
Sorry ... I don't have an answer for you, except to say that I've never had a problem with scanning with either Studio6 or Fusion (all versions) for the 3 years I've been using MixMeister. Most of my music is 4/4 house, trance & techno, but I do have other styles such as '70s disco and "real instrument" music with a less clearly-defined beat (eg. Loreena McKennitt). But BPM scanning always works. I would add that I only work with 320kbps CBR .MP3 and .WAV files. What do you use? If you cannot find any guidance on these forums, then I suggest you contact MixMeister support. Sorry I cannot be of more specific help ... I can understand your frustration with this. I hope you get a resolution. Neb. |

Hi VMMDJ,
I'm afraid I have been having similar problems with BPM. In fact I now seem to get a problem with the Microsoft C++ library falling over. I've mailed MM and they just suggested a re-install - no such luck. It is interesting to note that I've never had a problem with Express or Studio, Just Fusion+Video. So here are a few things I have found out so far: 1) My setup. I am running a new Dell XPS M1530 with Vista Home. I have 2gb RAM and 160Gb hd. 2) I have 31000 mp3 files with a mixture of CBR and VBR with a bitrate of only 128 or 196 (I have bad hearing and can't tell the difference!!). A vast mixture of music: dance, french, classical - you name it. 3) My first attempt at just loading the root folder for the music seemed to prove OK, but 30 mins in it started to show the C++ library failure. It seemed to BPM some of the files. When I restarted MM I looked in the library to see which file it was working on, but nothing. 4) Removed the library files in the AppsData directory (there are other notes on how to do this elsewhere) and then started again. 5) I found a trail of info on the net regarding the C++ problem, but not with MM. It suggested chaning the program settings. So to do this, right click on the icon for MM, select properties (at the bottom), click on the compatibility tab, clikc on the first tick box and select Windows XP (service pack 2), click on OK. Not sure what it does, but it has helped. 6)I added only a selection of my 31k files. I have added roughly 3400, 3900 3700 (the amount in my folders under the root folder). I found that in Fusion the library tab waits until it has read every file in and placed it in the catalog.mdb file before Scanning begins. This solved my scanning problem and it happily ticked away. After each one had finished, I added another chunk in. 7) I am now at about 15000 and all is still OK. I don't know much about C++ as a language, but I wondered if it was trying to store the amount of files yet to scan in a temporary area and the thing just fell over. 8) Other info from previous versions (and this one). I have a few funny tracks that I've since deleted where MM just couldn't work out what the BPM was and the BPM routine would just stop, even though MM still worked. It was a Robbie Williams track if I remember and had two distinct tempos in the track - maybe it just confused. Anyway I hope my scrawlings help with the problem. With 16000 files still to load in I might still find that it falls over - but at least I'll know that in my case it is down to library size and I can shove it back to support. One thing that is not mentioned here. All versions of MM create separate plot files (.mxm) for every music file imported to the library after it scans them (it does not encode any information to the original file). If you have the old .mxm files (the track plotting files) alongside the songs (or still existing in a special directory) from your previous install of Pro or Studio 6, you need to delete them and let Fusion/Studio re-plot your music files anew, otherwise Fusion/Studio can get stuck on one or more of them and just continue to loop on a particular old .mxm file in scanning mode. That is not a bug. The new version of the software needs to create new track plotting files and when it encounters the older .mxm files created with the older software, it often can't analyze, re-plot and replace them properly. This should resolve most of these types of problems. It is something that all users of the previous line of software need to be prepared to do during migration. For those of us, like me, who keep the plot files alongside each individual music file, this can be a pain. However, Fusion/Studio will not get locked on every old .mxm file, and will generally replace most of them. Then, if you discover that the scanning process stalls on a particular file or files, you will need to identify the offending files one at a time and remove the old .mxm files associated with them. The best thing to do, however, is to locate all of your old track plotting files and remove them prior to importing your tracks into your Fusion/Studio library. Make sure to close Fusion/Studio each time before trying to manually remove any .mxm files. The re-open and allow it to rescan the files.
In terms of tracks with extreme variances in tempo, those can cause problems from time to time with the analysis, as MM wants to assign them a specific tempo which, in those cases, is not possible, as no specific tempo exists. Tepmix, that fix sounds... well... very time consuming.
Having to rescan all my music with each update? That takes days. |
