Hi --

Using MM Studio 7.2.2. I am unable to get a BPM value detected for several dozen MP3s. They MP3s play fine outside of MM but not in MM. Deleting the MXMs and re-adding the files to the library doesn't help. All other files seem to work fine -- BPMs detected w no problems.

One thing that is particularly odd is that when I delete the file from the library, delete the MXM, and then re-add the MP3 to the library, I can see the "Scanning" label switch to the "0%...15%...etc" label as it tries to scan it. But at the end, after it reaches 100%, it reverts to "Scanning".

Any ideas how to debug this to understand why these files are problematic?

Thanks!

Normally, removing the MXMs and re-scanning should solve this problem.

We identified a problem longer ago with Fusion handling certain high-res 320k files that were for some reason encoded in the mastering process (by a two separate vendors) at a higher frequency than others, 48,000khz instead of the standard 44,100. However, I believe that MM addressed this in a previous release, and it was more related to unstable playback as opposed to problems in scanning. However, I do seem to remember that those files took significantly longer to scan than my other MP3s.

Have you checked the encoding details on these files to see if there are consistent and identifiable differences between them and your other MP3s? If so, you might want to try to re-process/re-encode the file as a copy into another MP3 or different format entirely (WAVE or WMA) to see if that makes any difference.

However, this should not be happening, and if you continue to have trouble, you should contact technical support for assistance, with any details that you can provide (e.g., does the file work when re-encoded? does it have unique characteristics?):
