Running MM7 Fusion I notice that long notes (particularly bass) do not have the intended "smooth" output, instead I get choppy almost clicking audio. I notice this happens more so when MM is accessing .mp3 information from my 400 GB external HD (when the activity light is on, sound quality drops dramatically). I am using a HP laptop Core Duo 2.7 gHz setup (all programs except MM are disabled during live performance) Something tells me this might be hardware related, any settings I can change to resolve this?

Jan9043,
Let me be the first to tell you that it is not your hardware that is causing the problem. I have two computers and one laptop in my studio. Currently, MM Fusion is on my most expensive hardware, I had a quad core chip with over 8 gigs of memory, xfi sound card, and over 8 speakers. So I know for sure it is not the hardware. I am also having problems with sound quality. It is a software issue and I am not sure if MM has resolved it yet. You can check out the forum Sound quality issues. Please let me know if you have resolved it. |

What version are you all running? One profile still references MMPro6 and the other profile just references Fusion 7. Sound quality improvements appeared in 7.2.2 ....

Thanks for your response, I just updated to 7.2.2. Looks like I was still running 7.0.5. I will try it out on my rig tonight, hopefully this will solve my issue.

Fusion is a CPU power-hungry application. Depending on how complex your set becomes, the baseline MM-published requirements for it may not be enough.
In fully-powered, multi-core systems, pops and clicks are almost always the result of hardware conflicts or driver problems at the subsystem level. These issues can be difficult to resolve, but they are resolvable. Make sure you have the latest subsystem driver updates, including soundcard drivers, video drivers, disk drive controller drivers, etc., from your computer manufacturer. In terms of some computer vendor provided drivers, like Dell (Dell Vostro 1500 laptop, as example), the computer manufacturer packaged drivers can be a year to 6 months behind the current driver releases from the chipset manufacturers. In cases such as this, you may need to go straight to the chipset manufacturer to get the most recent drivers for your system's hardware. The whole Microsoft Vista driver fiasco (for which there is currently a class-action lawsuit in the courts here in the U.S.) has led to troubles with faulty Vista driver sets, and has also impeded the stable development and timely release of driver updates for the XP platform. Driver compatibility problems with hardware and hardware conflicts at the subsystem level can be some of the most common causes of faulty audio production in any system in conjunction with any audio software. Additionally, the CPU processing power of your system can be problematic specifically with Fusion/Studio 7. Tim, Co-host of Jack2It MMRadio |
