Ok, I use MM Fusion, no MM Pro, but this is how I broadcast to a ShoutCast Server.
In addition to MM, you'll need WinAmp and the ShoutCast DNAS plug-in. In the Audio Output options of MM, set the output to webcast. When you're webasting, you're stream can be heard on mms://your IP address:7007, if you've got a router, use the local IP address, this'll save on using any internet bandwidth at this time. Open the URL for your MM stream in WinAmp and click play. Set up the ShoutCast DNAS plug-in and click the connect button. I'm assuming you know how to set up the ShoutCast DNAS plug-in, if not check the ShoutCast webpages, or put another comment in this topic and I'll tell you how. Now when you begin performing with MM, the MM stream will be picked up by WinAmp and then broadcast through the plug in to your server. Please note there will be a 10-15 second delay between beginning your performance and it being picked up with WinAmp. If you're taking over from someone else on the same server, what I recommend is starting to perform with MM a couple of minutes before your start time and click pause in WinAmp as soon as it picks up the stream, then when you are due to start hit play and it will start from the beginning of your set. Hope this helps and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to shout. |

Garat...that is awesome!
I've wondered for a long time how to make that work. Now a couple of other questions if you have the time. Using Shoutcast, does that eat at your bandwidth at all coming from the machine streaming? Or are you strictly casting to a larger server for bandwidth? What is the average listener number you can get before buffering becomes to much? When pausing WinAMP, does that pause the stream coming from MM? Or does it buffer in the background while waiting to be played? _____________________________________________________________________________________ See what I'm working on...Ninjaneer Studios Allied Home Technologies |

Hey DnC,
Firstly if you have a router set up and use the local IP address for your machine, usually something like 192.168.0.1 (may even work if you don't have a router), then the stream from MM to WinAmp won't use any of your internet bandwidth, so no loss of bandwidth from that. However I used ShoutCast DNAS to stream to a server, I don't stream directly to my listeners, a) cos I don't have a static IP address and b) cos I don't have large enough bandwidth (50 or 60 listeners at a time is not uncommon, though my server can cope with 100 at 128kbps). If you were using shoutcast server at a decent kbps you may be looking at only 5 or 6 listeners, depends on what your upload bandwidth is like. When you pause WinAmp it buffers the stream from WinAmp so when you click play again, it just picks up from where you left off, but MM keeps playing in the background. Hope that answers all your questions. |

Thanks for the info ... I also don't have a static IP and thought that pretty much ended the discussion for me w/r/t webcasting. This suggests there might still be a way ....

By the way, I rent my server through Second Life, it cost me 800L$ a week, which equates to around 3US$, next to nothing! I have no idea how much they cost usually.
But if you've never tried Second Life and are looking for a new audience, give me a shout I can help you with it, being doing it for a few months and it's much more interesting than simple webcasting. |

A nicer way (and without encoding twice, first WMA then MP3) is the combination of virtual audio cable and EdCast.
Virtual audio cable is a virtual soundcard. You set it as main output in fusion - then in edcast you take this as source and stream to as many shoutcast/icecast servers as you want. |
